WARNING: MASSIVE GOD OF WAR RAGNAROK SPOILERS AHEADGod of War Ragnarok is a massive game filled to the brim with secrets, hidden enemies, hidden areas, interesting side quests, and much more. However, one moment stands out more than others because of how flawlessly it was performed: the biggest plot twist in God of War Ragnarok's story. FINAL SPOILER WARNING.

As anyone who has beaten God of War Ragnarok and found themselves in the endgame will know, players rescue "Tyr" early on who preaches peace instead of war, refusing to fight alongside Kratos and Atreus until one moment later in the game, where his entire personality shifts. Brok calls Tyr out, and in annoyance, Tyr kills Brok, revealing himself to have been Odin the entire time. This is how Odin was able to keep tabs on Kratos and Atreus as the story developed, and just about no one saw this plot twist coming.

However, it turns out that Santa Monica Studio hid a small detail in subtitles that only a handful of fans may have realized. Players are able to find the real Tyr in God of War Ragnarok after killing Odin, and this Tyr has the proper accent over the y in his name: "Týr." When rescuing the fake Tyr who is actually Odin early in the game, there is no accent over the y, indicating he was actually fake the entire time (as seen in the below IGN spoilercast). Of course, it's such a small detail that it's no surprise it flew over many heads, but it's a small detail that makes God of War Ragnarok's entire storyline shine all the better. Few games can hide such a plot twist as well as it, especially right out in the open like this.

Indeed, small details like this go a long way in making a game all the better. For example, following Brok's death, Sindri allows his armor to get dirty in God of War Ragnarok. This dwarf has always been incredibly neurotic and hated dirt with a passion, so seeing him like this fulfills Brok's riddle: "what gets bigger the more you take away?" The answer is reflected in Sindri: a hole.

It's because of moments like these that God of War Ragnarok dominated nominations at The Game Awards 2022. It remains to be seen what it wins, but with Elden Ring and God of War Ragnarok going head to head, it's going to be an interesting show for sure.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
