God of War Ragnarok marks the second complete week since launch with patch 2.04, a small but welcome update for those affected by the resolved issues. With triple-A titles having garnered a reputation as of late for releases plagued by performance issues, God of War Ragnarok was a breath of fresh air, offering a sound technical experience alongside a narrative, accessibility, and combat described by many as nothing short of stellar.

Expectations were lofty, but Santa Monica Studio seemingly discovered a way to weather the hype and offer an experience with God of War Ragnarok that surpasses it. Reviewers have praised countless aspects of the story that is said to conclude the Norse saga, found themselves in awe of featured voice actors, and consider the accessibility options yet another example of how far ahead first-party PlayStation releases are in this regard. Furthermore, God of War Ragnarok continues Sony's habit of exclusives boasting admirable technical performance, in stark contrast to recent high-profile releases, such as the promising, but incredibly glitchy Pokemon Scarlet and Violet.

Similarly to those that came before it, update 2.04 is short and sweet, with patch notes which list a mere two fixes. Those that were unable to alter the difficulty level in-game should now be at liberty to do so but note that if lowered from Give Me God of War, players will still not be capable of reversing that decision, which is Santa Monica Studio's intent. Additionally, a rare crash that had the potential of occurring when navigating the weapons menu has been fixed, which concludes the noted changes.

God-Of-War-Ragnarok-3

God of War Ragnarok's laudable accomplishments have not gone unseen by the upcoming awards season, as the sequel leads with 10 nominations for the Game Awards, which is set to go live on December 8th. Acknowledged for Best Narrative, Art Direction, and Score, the critically acclaimed action-adventure earned two spots for Best Performance, nominating the father and son duo, played by Christopher Judge and Sunny Suljic respectively. Despite the immense recognition for God of War Ragnarok, some still believe that Richard Schiff's portrayal of Odin was snubbed.

Looking forward, fans should not hold their breath for God of War Ragnarok DLC, especially given that the prior entry into the franchise saw none arrive. Continued fixes and support are to be expected, but that does not mean Santa Monica Studio is slowing down. With several projects allegedly in development, director for God of War Ragnarok Eric Williams has once again espoused his adoration for the Castlevania franchise, citing it as an important influence for the recent game.
