God of War Ragnarok finally came out this week. The release is being celebrated with a unique advertisement for the main duo in God of War Ragnarok appearing on public transport in Bucharest, Romania.

The sequel to 2018’s God of War was released on November 9th to much fanfare. As is customary with the biggest releases on the video games calendar, God of War Ragnarok is getting a big advertising push to promote the title.

As a part of that advertising push a rather impressive painting is adorning the public transport in Bucharest. The discovery of this advertisement comes courtesy of Reddit user Unboupeovacapeuntap who posted the photo in the r/gaming forum. Adorning the side of a tram car is a sprawling depiction of Kratos and Atreus, the father-son duo at the core of God of War Ragnarok. The center of the painting shows the title logo for the game with close-ups of Kratos and Atreus paralleling the title. Mountains and a bolt of lightning spread in the background. The painting excellently pulls from the likeness of the characters.

The comment section of r/gaming’s post suggests that the painting was not an official advert planned by Sony, but a piece of graffiti by a Romanian art group. If this is the case, then it certainly isn’t the first instance of the God of War himself inspiring fan art. This painting is a much bigger creative project than others that have come before it, showing the level of dedication the series inspires in fans looking to pay homage to it.

The painting is of such a high quality that one could be forgiven for believing that the painting is an official advertisement licensed by PlayStation. Despite the painting not appearing to be an official Sony advertisement the Santa Monica Studio developed title is getting free advertising thanks to some creative fans of their latest game. This painting is but a needle in the haystack of hype surrounding the game which has helped God of War Ragnarok break sales records in its first week of release.

This advertisement will no doubt have been seen by many passengers and passersby alike. However, regardless of how much advertising a game gets, if the game isn’t good, it won’t sell the high number of copies that the game is selling. The fact that God of War Ragnarok reviews have been heaping praise on the title could be a big reason why the game is selling so well in its opening week.

God of War Ragnarok is available now on PS4 and PS5.
