God of War Ragnarok fans have watched the PlayStation Showcase trailer several times, looking for small hints as to what the game will be like. One fan has spotted a particularly neat detail, as it shows Faye’s passing could still play a role in God of War Ragnarok.

While God of War fans still know little about Faye, everything that Kratos and Atreus have said makes her sound like an incredible woman. Brok and Sindri only added to this with their praise for Faye, making it clear that she had a major impact on everyone she knew. Given that the entire journey of the previous God of War game was based on spreading Faye’s ashes, it makes sense that her passing would still be impactful in the sequel.

Pointed out by Reddit user bin634, the detail in question sees Kratos holding the bag that once housed the ashes of his wife. It appears when Kratos and Atreus are discussing the topic of war, with Atreus thinking that it may be the only way to deal with their problems. He then tells Kratos to start thinking like a general instead of a father, something that makes the Ghost of Sparta snap at his son. Because of this scene being shown after Kratos looks at the bag, Redditors like raghav-kamra believe Kratos is thinking about what Faye would do in his situation.

The Redditor who shared the God of War Ragnarok trailer discovery, bin634, suggests that the bag could be used as a motif like Joel’s watch in The Last of Us series. While the bag has served its purpose, Kratos could be holding onto it as a memento, with its continued appearance showing his inability to let go. It will be interesting to see how Atreus reacts if he stumbles upon it, though it is another clear sign that Kratos deeply loved Faye and is still trying to cope with his wife’s passing.

Other Redditors, like Ruley88, hope this detail leads to something more. While they do admit that a scene between Kratos and Faye would not be important to Atreus’ current journey or the looming threat of Ragnarok, several players clearly have interest in seeing such a moment. Whether it be a memory or hallucination, commenters want to witness an even more vulnerable Kratos, getting a clearer idea of what his relationship with Faye was like.

As of now, it remains to be seen if God of War fans will get their wish, as the appearance of Faye’s bag could be the furthest Santa Monica goes with her story in the sequel. Either way, this subtle detail serves as an excellent nod to the journey fans went on in the first game.

God of War Ragnarok is planned to release in 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
