God of War Ragnarok's ninth chapter, The Word of Fate, places the player in Kratos' shoes once again. Tensions are high since Atreus' disappearance, but Kratos has come up with a plan to fix things. Though Freya advises him against it, he sets off to Midgard in search of the Norns.

God of War Ragnarok's ninth chapter kicks off after leaving Sindri's House through the Mystic Gateway. Before leaving, the player can use Sindri's workshop to customize their equipment in preparation for the upcoming fights. Once everything is in order, it's time for Kratos and Freya to seek out the Norns.

The Lake Of Nine

Kratos approaches his wolves in God of War Ragnarok

Upon emerging from the other side of the Mystic Gateway, Kratos will find himself back at home. He will need to follow Freya to his wolves in order to move forward. The next step is to open the nearby gate, mount the sled, and follow the wolves until they reach the Lake of the Nine.

Kratos and Freya travel with wolves in God of War Ragnarok

The wolves will begin tracking the Norns, so the player will need to follow the direction they point their noses in. Eventually, the sled needs to be dismounted so Kratos can climb the ledge on the opposite side of the lake. Continuing along the path will lead to the King's Grave, a desolate area crawling with raiders. The Blades of Chaos can be extremely helpful for taking them out.

There's a Fierce Ogre here too, but its attacks aren't anything special. The best way to defeat it is by staying on the attack and blocking whenever necessary. Once the battle ends, interacting with the gravestone in the center of the arena will open the next path.

Kratos and Freya find a Raider camp in God of War Ragnarok

After passing a Red Coffin, Freya will open a hole in the wall. There's nothing inside, sadly, so Kratos must return to the wolves and move on. There's another Red Coffin in the camp to the east. Once the raiders here are defeated, it can be opened, and the quest will continue further south.

Kratos fights a Frost Gradungr in God of War Ragnarok

Before dismounting the sled, it would be wise to save the game as there is a Frost Gradungr in the next area. Though it's not as intimidating as the Flame Gradungr, it can pose quite a challenge. Defeating it requires Kratos to rely on his shield to parry its attacks and leave it vulnerable. The Blades of Chaos can also be used to reveal its Life Bar. It should go down with relative ease, but the Raiders can make it difficult if they aren't dealt with quickly.

Kratos ignites a rune in God of War Ragnarok

After the wolves reach the next area, Kratos must dismount the sled and follow the path on foot. To unlock the Nornir Chest containing an Idunn Apple, he must set fire to three separate runes. The first can be seen atop the cliff across from the chest, the second is found by climbing to the top and following the path to the south, and the third can be reached by dropping to the Hacksilver chest and looking east.

After defeating the Raiders in the next rooms, Kratos will be faced with two separate paths. Climbing left will lead him to a Legendary Chest while continuing right will lead to another room full of enemies. Once these enemies are bested, he will be able to open a Red Coffin before entering the next area.

Finding The Norns

Kratos faces the Traveler in God of War Ragnarok

After burning the brambles from the back wall, Kratos must grapple up to the next level where he'll find a Red Coffin along the path. After passing it, a miniboss known as the Traveller will attack. Though he looks dangerous, he is much too slow to pose any real threat. He provides ample warning before each of his attacks, so the best way to defeat him is by keeping the pressure on and only dodging when necessary.

Kratos faces a Raider and a Gulon in God of War Ragnarok

Continuing along the path, Kratos will face some more Raiders and a few Gulons before passing another Red Coffin. Further on, he will encounter three Ice Nightmares and a Hel-Revenant. The Ice Nightmares are similar to Wisps in terms of how they fight, but the Hel-Revenant can be difficult. One of its attacks can slow Kratos' movement, making it hard for him to land any hits. Freya's Sonic Arrows can be a great help if the player wants to avoid this. Before entering the next area, the player should save the game in preparation for a boss battle.

The Frost Phantom

Kratos and Freya face the Frost Phantom

Defeating the Frost Phantom requires Kratos to attack its core with the Leviathan Axe whenever the opportunity arises. Doing so enough times will stun the creature, allowing Kratos to attack it. The Frost Phantom is invulnerable to physical attacks, so it's best to stay a safe distance away from it. Most of its moves can be dodged easily, but it can be hard to see them coming.

To enter the battle's second phase, Kratos must destroy the purple obelisk after staggering the Frost Phantom. This will deplete half of its health bar while repeating the process will deplete the rest. Once the Frost Phantom has been defeated, Kratos must follow Freya into a cave where he'll pass another Red Coffin.

The Dream Sequence

Kratos faces a hoard of Legions in God of War Ragnarok

After the next cutscene, Kratos and Freya will experience a vision of Baldur's death. Once it ends, a hoard of Legion will attack, but they are easily vanquished by tapping R1 repeatedly to perform Light Attacks. Since they're slow to attack, this method will interrupt them before they get the chance to.

Sigrun attacks Kratos in God of War Ragnarok

Sigrun attacks after the next cutscene plays. Surviving the onslaught can be difficult considering the size of the arena. All the player needs to do is outlast the battle until the next cutscene starts playing, but doing so can be quite tough. Like before, tapping R1 can be a big help, but it won't guarantee victory. Movement is key to avoiding these enemies, so it's a good idea to keep running around the outer edge until the battle ends.

Kratos attacks the Einherjar in God of War Ragnarok

The next battle consists of Einherjar and Raiders. Though the arena is frighteningly small, this fight is much easier than the last. Once enough enemies are defeated, Kratos will escape this dream world and continue his quest.

Well Of Urd

Kratos and Freya mount a Kelpie in God of War Ragnarok

After mounting a Kelpie, Kratos and Freya will be taken to the bottom of the river, where they find the Norns' lair and learn that Heimdall intends to kill Atreus. Having got what they came for, they begin the journey home. Emerging from the opposite side of the cave, Kratos will pass a Red Coffin on an eastern ledge.

Kratos uses the Blades of Chaos to break through a wall in God of War Ragnarok

Next, he'll climb a cliff face and find another Red Coffin in the back room before leaping through a crack in the ceiling. While climbing down the side of the next cliff, Kratos should begin moving left if the player wishes to find a Legendary Chest hidden behind a wall. It's difficult to see, but there is a way to descend the cliff in front of it.

Kratos finds Sindri's shop in God of War Ragnarok

There's a zipline on top of the cliff Kratos just climbed down that will take him back to the wolves. After returning to the lake, the player can utilize Sindri's workshop to upgrade their equipment. After all is said and done, the next chapter begins by stepping through the Mystic Gateway.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
