After years of waiting, God of War fans can finally mark the God of War Ragnarok release date down on their calendars. Come November 9, gamers on PS4 and PS5 will be able to dive into Kratos' latest adventure, which we know will be the last entry in the Norse mythology saga. It remains to be seen how it will all end up, but in the meantime, Sony has published a new plot synopsis explaining the story of God of War Ragnarok on the PlayStation Store.

"Fimbulwinter is well underway. Kratos and Atreus must journey to each of the Nine Realms in search of answers as Asgardian forces prepare for a prophesized battle that will end the world. Along the way they will explore stunning, mythical landscapes, and face fearsome enemies in the form of Norse gods and monsters. The threat of Ragnarok grows ever closer. Kratos and Atreus must choose between their own safety and the safety of the realms," the new PlayStation Store synposis reads. A lot of this information could already be guessed at based on what's been shown in the God of War Ragnarok trailers, but it's still nice to have an updated plot summary nevertheless.

The synopsis points out some of the main threats that Kratos and Atreus will face in God of War Ragnarok, namely the titular Ragnarok apocalypse looming on the horizon and "Asgardian forces" that are looking to fight them. One of the Asgardian forces in question is Thor, the God of Thunder, who has been presented as the main antagonist of the new game. It will be interesting to see what other Asgardian characters pop up in God of War Ragnarok, and if Odin himself makes an appearance or not.

god of war ragnarok plot summary

God of War Ragnarok's Nine Realms should ensure plenty of environmental variety and unique sights for players to take in on their journey. The Nine Realms in question are Alfheim, Asgard, Helheim, Jotunheim, Midgard, Muspelheim, Niflheim, Svartalfheim, and Vahaeim. There will likely be more trailers between now and God of War Ragnarok's release date that show more of the Nine Realms, but fans may have to wait for launch to see all of them.

Right now, the God of War Ragnarok release date is scheduled for November 9. However, it's always possible that the game will be delayed to a later date, so fans should keep that in mind. The good news is that Sony seems confident God of War Ragnarok will meet its release date, opening up pre-orders and quickly selling out of the special God of War Ragnarok Jotnar Edition, so fans should be able to safely circle November 9 on their calendars.
