A goal with God of War Ragnarok's side quests and other optional content was to surpass the quality seen in CD Projekt Red's The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, according to one of the game's developers. God of War Ragnarok reviews are in ahead of its highly-anticipated launch next week, with Sony Santa Monica's action-adventure game earning near-universal acclaim from critics.

While there was already a great deal of hype behind God of War Ragnarok, it's safe to say that many are even more excited to play the game now that the reviews have indicated it reaches the high bar set by its 2018 predecessor. Many will be anxious to dive into God of War Ragnarok's main storyline and see what happens to Kratos and Atreus during their new journey, but fans should consider taking some time to check out the side content as well.

God of War Ragnarok developer Anthony Dimento responded to The Washington Post's review of the game, specifically a quote about the side quests. The Washington Post declared that God of War Ragnarok has beaten Witcher 3 for best side quests, urging fans not to skip them. Dimento said that was one of the goals when it came to God of War Ragnarok side quests, describing The Witcher 3 as one of his favorite games. "It didn't seem possible, but this was literally goal," Dimento said on Twitter.

According to some estimations, God of War Ragnarok has about 20 hours of side content for fans to go through, along with 20 hours of the main story, with it taking around 70 or more hours for those that want to get true 100% completion and unlock the platinum trophy. Assuming these estimations are accurate, that would mean God of War Ragnarok side quests about on par with the main quest in terms of size, so it definitely seems like Santa Monica went all-out with the game's optional content.

Luckily, God of War fans will soon be able to play the new game for themselves and see all that the extensive side content has to offer. Years after it was initially revealed to the world, the God of War Ragnarok release date is less than a week away, with gamers across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 soon able to experience the journey for themselves. It should be noted that God of War Ragnarok preloading is available now, so gamers can make sure they're ready to go come launch day.

God of War Ragnarok launches on November 9 for PS4 and PS5.
