Santa Monica Studio is one of the most well-known developers under the Sony umbrella, and it’s incredibly busy as a result. Right now, everyone knows it is developing God of War Ragnarok, the end of Kratos’ Norse story for better or worse. Many are excited to see what this next franchise entry manages to do with it all, but PC fans are also preparing to get the first game for the first time ever.

God of War is releasing on PC in January 2022, allowing those without a PlayStation to finally play the epic ahead of its sequel’s release. It’s not being developed by Santa Monica Studio though, as instead a port specialist in Jetpack Interactive is developing God of War's PC port while Santa Monica oversees it, but that’s not to say God of War Ragnarok is the only game in development at Santa Monica Studio. In fact, it seems there is at least one more in the earliest stages.

A recent job posting on the official Santa Monica Studio website reveals the God of War Ragnarok developer is hiring for a new game, with the listing for a Senior Character Concept Artist holding details for its goal and confirmation of the new game. Specifically, this job listing states that Santa Monica is looking for an experienced artist to help the studio “visualize dynamic and believable characters that set the bar for creativity and complexity on the PlayStation console” in the development of a “new unannounced title!”

Based on this job listing, it seems this new, unannounced Santa Monica game is in the absolute earliest stages of conceptualization and development. God of War Ragnarok likely remains the studio’s main focus and is utilizing most of the developer’s resources, but this new title will likely gain more ground as God of War Ragnarok’s release window gets closer and closer.

Unfortunately, this job listing gives no real glimpse into what kind of characters this new game is looking for—outside the desire to create something industry-defining. It could be anything really, such as a new Santa Monica IP or even a new God of War. Many fans are hoping the franchise goes to Egypt once the Norse storyline is wrapped, and that’s a possibility here. On the other hand, seeing something brand new out of Santa Monica would be interesting as well.

Either way, at this stage, fans are likely years away from seeing this new, unannounced title come to fruition. God of War Ragnarok, however, isn’t that long of a wait and soon players will be facing off with Thor as Kratos and Atreus.
