Twitch streamer Felix "xQc" Lengyel weighed in on God of War Ragnarok and discussed the score he would give the game as a reviewer. He also explained the reasons why he would give the score he chose for Santa Monica Studio's latest entry in the series. God of War Ragnarok is available now, four years after the 2018 game.

God of War Ragnarok takes place a few years after 2018's God of War. Following the events of the original game, Kratos and his son Atreus find themselves facing the titular Ragnarok, the end times of Norse myth, and coming face to face with more ghosts from the past and threats from the present. With Atreus and his bow at his side, and weapons such as his Leviathan Axe and signature Blades of Chaos, Kratos shows the Nine Realms why he is the titular God of War. As they carve their foes to pieces, overcome obstacles, and face all that stand against them, Kratos and Atreus are once again the focal points of the story amid a cast laden with deities and dwarves alike.

On a recent Twitch stream, xQc stated that, while the high scores and reviews for God of War Ragnarok are justified, he would rate the game a 9.3 out of 10, just shy of a perfect 10 out of 10. The reason for that is due to a nitpick he had with the game and by extension the series. He said that were it not for the game's backtracking, while not as noticeable as it was in past God of War games, he would have rated the game a 9.5 instead.

By comparison, the first God of War game, released in 2005, was an action-packed adventure for the PS2 that was notorious for some backtracking at certain points of the story. Coupled with some finicky camera angles, some plot-heavy gameplay segments were considered flawed at the time. Santa Monica Studios took those criticisms to heart and continued to refine the gameplay for future games.

Even though xQc's criticism is minor, he added that he enjoyed his time with the game so far, and it is doing favorably well in both sales and ratings. Aggregate site MetaCritic rated God of War Ragnarok as the top PS5 first-party title released so far, with a score of 94 at the time of writing. With plenty of combat and story to engross players, God of War Ragnarok is sure to please both old and new fans of the series.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
