This past week has been a stressful one for God of War fans. There were rumors that God of War Ragnarok would be at Summer Game Fest to reveal its release date, but the show came and went with no mention of Kratos' next adventure. Then there were rumors that since God of War Ragnarok was a no-show at Summer Game Fest that the game had been delayed to 2023, which would be especially frustrating for fans since it was originally meant to launch all the way back in 2021.
However, it seems worries about a potential God of War Ragnarok release date delay were premature. According to a new report by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, there are currently no plans to delay God of War Ragnarok out of 2022. According to Bloomberg's sources, God of War Ragnarok was originally going to release at some point in September, but it's now going to launch in November instead. A specific God of War Ragnarok release date in November was not mentioned in the report, but it did acknowledge the possibility that plans could change, and it could very well end up delayed to 2023 by the time it's all said and done.
If God of War Ragnarok meets its expected November 2022 release, then Sony is going to have a blockbuster lineup for PlayStation consoles this year. Besides the many third-party releases that will launch in the fall months, Sony has also confirmed The Last of Us Part 1, a PS5 remake of the original Last of Us game, is going to launch on September 2. Since The Last of Us Part 1 is releasing in September, perhaps part of the reason why God of War Ragnarok is being moved to November is to avoid having the games release so close together, but that's just speculation at this time.
As far as God of War Ragnarok goes, fans don't know a ton about the game or what it will entail, and it's likely to say that way until launch. We know that God of War Ragnarok will feature Thor and will apparently be the end of the Norse saga, but beyond that, most details are being kept secret at the time of this writing. Fans will likely have to play the game for themselves to learn much more about the game, though at least one more trailer announcing the release date is expected to drop between now and launch.
God of War Ragnarok bringing an end to the Norse saga has some thinking that it may also see the end of Kratos, but that remains to be seen. God of War fans will just have to wait for more information on the next God of War and all it is bringing to the table, whether it's out this year or next.
