God of War: Ragnarok was announced on September 16, 2020, and has since not been heard from. At the time of its announcement, it was revealed the God of War sequel would be released in 2021, but it seems that's becoming more unlikely.

Some had theorized that God of War: Ragnarok wouldn't see its initial release date due to the lack of information revealed since its announcement, and because Santa Monica Studio hasn't been able to offer much confirmation on whether it was coming later this year. Now, it's all but confirmed that the game won't be releasing in 2021 after an insider from the games industry has teased that it won't be coming this year.

Reputable journalist Jason Schreier broke the news on Twitter when asked about when God of War: Ragnarok would be formally delayed. This came after the news that Horizon Forbidden West is still slated for this year, which has been surrounded by some skepticism of its 2021 release date as well, but it seems that Guerrilla Studio is sticking to that date. Schreier responded with the claim that Ragnarok was delayed months ago internally, but Sony has yet to make an official statement. As of right now, it's unclear when the game will release exactly, but it's more likely going to miss out on 2021 completely.

While not exactly surprising, it's still somewhat disappointing to know players won't get their hands on the God of War sequel quite yet. However, this can also be for the betterment of the overall product, and what may come from it is a more refined game. Regardless, Sony has plenty of exclusives planned for the PlayStation 5 generation, so a lack of exclusives isn't an issue that PS players will be facing anytime soon. Sony will likely mention the delay in the coming months. It would seem more likely now that God of War: Ragnarok will see a 2022 release date, giving the developers plenty more time, but also spreads the exclusive games that are coming out for the PS5.

Details on God of War: Ragnarok are extremely scarce right now, which is understandable, because the game is still in development, and Game Director Cory Barlog has been very careful not to reveal anything.  Nevertheless, if God of War was any indication, players can look forward to an exciting narrative filled with twists and turns, plenty of action, and one that will take players on an emotional journey.
