Warning: Spoilers ahead for God of War RagnarokSanta Monica Studio's sequel to their 2018 hit God of War, met fans' expectations within a variety of areas, with some successful subversion of expectation. God of War Ragnarok provided many conclusions to story arcs, while leaving the gate open for new ones to be explored and told in either DLC or a completely new title. Whether this will follow Atreus or Kratos' path is still up in the air for speculation.

As it is unlikely that fans will hear anything regarding a new story anytime soon, all eyes are set on the upcoming new game plus update for God of War Ragnarok and what the potential implementations may be. Here's what fans are hoping for.

5 Kratos' Fur Cloak

Kratos' Cape

If there is one thing that the majority of fans want for God of War Ragnarok's new game plus, is the return of Kratos' fur cloak. This was present during the first cutscene of Ragnarok and very quickly disappears once Freya attacks both Kratos and Atreus, to many players' disappointment. While it is not game-changing in the slightest, fans had assumed an option for this same cloak or an armor set that was similar would appear to be crafted, but this was not the case.

This is more than likely down to the issues regarding Kratos' Blades of Chaos, the Leviathan Axe, and Mimir on his back, and the cloak potentially unrealistically phasing through these objects. With the new game plus mode now on the horizon, there is a chance for developers to find a way to work around this, and utilize this outfit as an inspiration for new armor sets to be discovered.

4 Unique Armor Sets

Zeus Armor

In God Of War (2018)'s new game plus mode, players had the opportunity to craft a new and powerful armor, defeating each of the Valkyries along with the Queen. This is the most powerful armor set players can attain in the game, and it opened up a door for players who wish to take on the 'Give Me God of War' difficulty more incentive to do so. Not only did this give players a way to jump into combat more confidently, especially on the harder difficulties, but it was essential to the game's replayability.

With Ragnarok, the developers at Santa Monica Studio now have the opportunity to double down on this. They can potentially add multiple armor sets to the game with their own level of customization, in order for each of them to have a unique feel. As the game already contains a transmog feature once leveling up an armor piece to its max level, the foundation has already been made for players to mix and match their preferred armor sets in terms of their appearance. This could be taken to another level in new game plus.

3 New Favors

Mist Echoes Favor

Along with the plethora of side quests and content God of War Ragnarok already has to offer, there is no doubt that fans will want more in new game plus. This is evident in the favors present in Musphelheim and the practice arena in Niflheim, allowing players to take on enemies even in the aftermath of completing every other quest. One quest in God of War (2018), known as 'Ivaldi's Workshop,' was one of the best favors implemented. It served as a time trial for players to gather the required resources, and get out of the mist before it was too late.

This could be replicated in Ragnarok, despite Sindri being absent at the end of the game due to his fallout with Kratos and Atreus. While it does not have to be exactly the same, a similar time trial quest for multiple rewards and resources could serve as a great extension of the current favors available to players.

2 Additional Enemy Finishers

Kratos vs Drake

One of the rare and minor disappointments in God of War Ragnarok was the absence of any executions on the Drakes that players stumble upon throughout their journey. This left some of these encounters feeling anticlimactic once the battle was over, especially since players are accustomed to the prompt for a finisher appearing once the enemy's health has depleted enough.

If developers introduce similar current executions for other enemies on the Drakes, players will be satisfied with the addition. Along with this, it is also an opportunity for a variety of finishers to be used for some enemy types in order to avoid any of them becoming repetitive or monotonous, despite the game's variety in enemy types itself.

1 Additional Weapon Upgrades

Leviathan Axe Upgrade

Given the fact that the new game plus mode will contain more challenging encounters, especially when played on 'Give Me God of War,' the chance at further upgrading Kratos' weapons would be a dream for players. While it does not have to be a substantial jump in terms of each weapon's stats and buffs, it may help some who wish to really wish to step into that territory of an overpowered and mighty Kratos.

It may seem like overkill in the eyes of some fans, but this could come along with the new additional features in terms of each weapon's appearance, especially since upgrading weapons currently changes their look. Based on God of War (2018)'s new game plus mode, this is unlikely to be an addition to the update, but it is certainly not impossible.

God of War Ragnarok is now available on PlayStation 4 and 5.
