Video game release dates seem to be fickle things nowadays. Due to development constraints and games being more ambitious and difficult to make, a lot of companies become unable to meet their initially planned release date and instead are forced to push the launch of a game back in order to prevent a game being played by fans when it isn't yet completed. Starfield and Redfall, two of 2022's biggest titles, recently have seen their release dates pushed back into 2023. However, one major title has yet to reveal its expected launch date, causing increasing concern among fans.

That game is God of War Ragnarok, the highly anticipated sequel to Sony's soft reboot of the God of War franchise. The game was initially set to launch in 2021, but was since pushed back into a vague 2022 date. Now, halfway through 2022, fans are growing somewhat agitated as they still haven't been granted a God of War Ragnarok release date. There have been plenty of rumors surrounding release dates for the game, including potential news of God of War Ragnarok even being delayed into 2023.

However, a new set of recent merchandise may have hinted towards when God of War Ragnarok will finally launch. A website known as "Blackfire" recently listed a God of War t-shirt, complete with a quote from Thor in the God of War Ragnarok 2021 reveal trailer, alongside two plushes, one of which being of the World Serpent Jormungandr. The other plush is of an octopus-like creature, known as Dinner which can be spotted in the same trailer on Durlin's shoulder. Fans believe that the name Dinner stems from Kratos threatening to eat the octopus-like creature.

With all of these pieces of merchandise having an October 2022 release date, current speculation would suggest that this would be around when fans could expect God of War Ragnarok to release. This is one month after a previously leaked date of September, but one month before the running theory that God of War Ragnarok will launch in November 2022.

Even if October doesn't signal the month that fans will get their hands on the game, any 2022 release date would be better than the option of God of War Ragnarok being delayed. It seems that the development team has no plans on pushing the game into 2023 at the moment though, as God of War Producer Cory Balrog returned to Twitter recently to respond to a claim that the game had been delayed.

God of War Ragnarok releases in 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
