PlayStation has released an official launch trailer for the upcoming God of War Ragnarok. The Sony exclusive action-adventure is scheduled to launch early next month, and the new trailer shows some returning characters and events taking place in the new chapter. God of War Ragnarok is the second installment in the Norse era of the franchise.
God of War is one of Sony's premier exclusive titles spanning across PlayStation generations. The game series started in early 2005 with God of War, which is also the title of the most recent iteration of God of War on the PS4. God of War Ragnarok is the ninth installment in the series and takes players in the shoes of Kratos to the great winter as the time inches closer to Ragnarok.
The launch trailer confirms that in addition to Kratos, God of War Ragnarok will include his son Atreus as a teenager in the adventures. The players can control Atreus and his trusty bow to help his father with tasks, puzzles, and in combat. Other noteworthy characters that can be spotted from the trailer include the Mimir's head on the belt of Kratos, helping him throughout his journey, and a former ally of Kratos, Freya, is now seen fighting the God of War himself.
The setting of the new game is largely in a wintery Scandinavian landscape, although lush jungles are present too. As the trailer's narration says, this means that the war is imminent and bloodshed is inevitable.
In the video, Kratos is seen locking hands with Tyr, Kratos' counterpart in Norse mythology, who was thought to have been killed. The Gods of War seem to join forces against the gods that seek revenge against the God of War Kratos and his ilk. Fenrir is also seen following Atreus' arrow into the sky, and one of the opponents of Kratos, the Thunder God Thor, is revealed by the Mjolnir making an appearance in the trailer.
While the trailer is focusing mostly on the narrative, cut scenes, and boss battles, there is a small segment of the regular combat and enemies that has gotten a slight overhaul in God of War Ragnarok. In addition to new combat options, the UI of the game has been updated.
God of War Ragnarok is scheduled to release on November 9, 2022 on PS4 and PS5.
