Many God of War Ragnarok fans are pondering the true age of Kratos. God of War Ragnarok sees the return of Kratos, once a Spartan soldier who now travels the nine realms of Norse mythology. His son Atreus accompanies him, and they meet formidable foes like Thor, Odin, Gna, and Heimdall in God of War Ragnarok.

Kratos is an iconic character in gaming history, as he has appeared in all titles from the God of War franchise. From his days as a Spartan soldier who did Ares' bidding to being a proud and loving father fighting the Norse gods in God of War Ragnarok, Kratos has come a long way. The backstory of Kratos is deeply tragic, as he has gone through immense emotional and physical trauma throughout his long life. That longevity is one of his most notable qualities, and curious God of War Ragnarok fans are discussing the Ghost of Sparta's exact age.

Reddit user Silver-Right uploaded an image on the God of War subreddit showing the old and new versions of Kratos side by side. The user asks fellow Reddit users about their thoughts on the age of Kratos, considering he's from Ancient Greece. Most fans agreed that he was at least 50 years old during the events of God of War 3, but there is no consensus after that. Some God of War Ragnarok gamers believe Kratos is more than 1,000 years old, as they pointed out that Cory Barlog of Santa Monica Studio once said that God of War 2018 is set 1,000 years after God of War 3.

Some God of War Ragnarok players also cited a text from Atreus's journal that says Kratos is more than a thousand years old. On the other hand, some fans say that 1,000 could be an exaggerated figure but agree that Kratos is at least a couple of centuries old. Some gamers pointed out a dialogue between Kratos and Atreus from God of War Ragnarok when the former tells the latter about living for centuries.

Though the exact number is unknown, the overall consensus was that Kratos from God of War Ragnarok is centuries old and has seen many horrific events throughout his life. After all, Kratos witnessed the death of his brother Deimos during childhood and wore tattoos to symbolize him. He also became the Ghost of Sparta after Ares tricked him into brutally killing his family. Despite going through so many dark moments, though, Kratos has lived on for centuries, finding himself in a completely different world from the Greek one he once knew.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
