Since God of War Ragnarok was released in November, players have been progressing through the various bosses of the game, but one has suffered a heartbreaking loss to King Hrolf Kraki. This enemy can be found in Midgard like several other God of War Ragnarok bosses, but unlike other berserkers of his ilk, King Hrolf Kraki is the strongest the game has to offer.

A Reddit user has garnered over 100 upvotes on their God of War Ragnarok screenshot that shows a fallen Kratos and a taunting line of dialogue from the boss that defeated him. God of War 2018 revitalized the PlayStation franchise after it took a hiatus, drawing in plenty of new fans to the series, some of which have shared their own struggles along the way. Like with other God of War Ragnarok bosses, King Hrolf Kraki can be a roadblock for players that are trying to complete the latest God of War adventure because of his tremendous health pool and how powerful the boss is.

Reddit user IndyGamer363 recently shared a God of War Ragnarok image showing Kratos laying on the ice, surrounded by a blood-red aura that emphasizes the death of the former Spartan warrior. The screenshot highlights the fact that the opposing King Hrolf Kraki has had his health bar lowered all the way to what appears to be zero, but he's seemingly still alive as a line of dialogue shows that he continues to taunt Kratos even after the battle concludes. With God of War Ragnarok's hero Kratos fading away before the respawn screen prompts the player to retry, King Hrolf Kraki says "you won't be the last to fall to me," suggesting that the enemy could fight for longer despite the lack of life essence.

Because of how low God of War Ragnarok's King Hrolf Kraki HP is in IndyGamer363's screenshot, the player may have only needed to get one more attack off to be victorious. God of War Ragnarok battles can often come down to these last-minute decisions that make or break the encounter, with IndyGamer363's one ending more dismally than they seemingly expected. With many God of War Ragnarok players opting to wait until the R3 prompt emerges before celebrating a win over any bosses, IndyGamer363 admitted to lunging into dangerous combat upon seeing the low health bar which is what led to their downfall.

Because King Hrolf Kraki is an optional boss in God of War Ragnarok, players don't have to beat him to finish their adventures, but he will need to be killed if one wishes to complete the experience and earn the platinum trophy.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
