Those who played the previous God of War game should already be somewhat familiar with Nornir Chests. There are 35 of them in God of War Ragnarok, though players will only need to find 30 in order to unlock the "Full Belly" trophy and max out Kratos' health and rage meters. Finding these chests is only half the challenge though, as players will need to solve a rune-based puzzle in order to get them open.

God of War Ragnarok's first two Nornir Chests can be found in the Aurvangar Wetlands, which is the area in which Kratos and Atreus first find themselves after traveling to Svartalfheim at the beginning of Chapter 2. This guide will explain where exactly players can find both of the chests as well as how to solve the puzzles needed to get them open.

Not long after arriving in the Aurvangar Wetlands at the start of Chapter 2, players will find the path ahead blocked by a large wooden wheel. After disembarking the boat at the dock on the right-hand side, they'll find their path blocked by a geyser. To get past it, they'll need to frost up the Leviathan Axe by holding Triangle and then throw the axe into the geyser to freeze it, which will allow Kratos and Atreus to jump across.

Rather than climbing up the wooden structure over to the left as intended, players should look for another geyser just to their right and freeze it like they did the first one. They'll then be able to use the Blades of Chaos to climb up to an elevated area via a wooden ledge. There's an artifact near the corpse of a dwarf here, as well as a statue with a glowing blue rune on it next to a small tree.

This is one of three seals that players will need to break in order to open the first Nornir Chest, so players should break the statue and then look out over the water. If they look closely, they'll see two more statues with glowing runes on them and should once again break them by throwing Kratos' Leviathan Axe. Once all three seals are broken, players can drop down the ledge to the left of the tree and open up the now-unlocked Nornir Chest.

Aurvangar Wetlands Nornir Chest #2

To find the second Nornir Chest in the Aurvangar Wetlands, players will need to keep a lookout for some wooden boards with white markings on them over to their left. If they approach them in the boat, they'll be able to pass beneath them by pressing the Circle button, which will lead them to a dock on the other side. After dealing with the enemies here, they'll find the chest just up ahead.

To unlock it, players will need to look for three spinning devices with circular paddles on the sides. Throwing the Leviathan Axe at these paddles will cause the device to turn and change the rune that's displayed on it. Players will need to turn each device until it displays one of the runes on the side of the chest and will unlock the chest once all three runes have been selected.

The first spinner can be found behind the geyser to the right of the chest. It can be difficult to get the right angle, but players should be able to find a spot where they can make out the rune through the water. After selecting the rune that looks like a P, players should double back and head around the corner to the left of the chest, where they'll find another spinner next to a gate. This one will need to be set to the rune that looks like a B, but players will only be able to see the rune while standing to the left of the device.

The final spinner can be found up in the raised area nearby and will need to be set to the rune that looks like the letter N. While they're up here, players should open the Legendary Chest that's on the edge of a cliff overlooking the water to get the Deadly Obsidian Handles for Kratos' Blades of Chaos. There's also a Lore Marker not far from the chest if players drop down from the nearby ledge.

Now that all three runes have been selected, players will be able to open the Nornir Chest down below. Depending on the order that players have been opening these chests and assuming they haven't already opened up 30, it will either contain an Idunn Apple (odd-numbered chests) or a Horn of Blood Mead (even-numbered chests). The former will increase Kratos health meter, while the latter will increase the meter for his Spartan Rage.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
