God of War Ragnarok director Eric Williams has confirmed that one seemingly minor character was really Odin in disguise. God of War Ragnarok released earlier this month to widespread critical acclaim, and while it's a fairly lengthy adventure, it's safe to say that many hardcore fans have already played it to completion. But just because one has managed to reach the end of God of War Ragnarok's story, it doesn't mean that there aren't more secrets to find.

The rest of this article will have MAJOR SPOILERS for God of War Ragnarok, so only proceed after finishing the story.

God of War Ragnarok has plenty of side quests for players to complete that go a long way in expanding the game world and adding more layers to the various characters that players interact with on their journey. It also has no shortage of hidden secrets, though some are more hidden than others. One secret that the vast majority of fans were unlikely to ever notice on their own was recently revealed by game director Eric Williams in an interview with IGN.

According to Williams, Odin was hiding in plain sight throughout God of War Ragnarok, using his abilities to impersonate others. One surprise example of this, according to Williams, occurs when Kratos and Atreus travel to Svartalfheim for the first time. As they row their boat under a bridge, they can see a dwarf walking across it. The dwarf stops to spit at the father-son duo, and apparently, that dwarf is really Odin in disguise.

Of course, those that have finished God of War Ragnarok will know that this certainly not the only time that Odin used a disguise. Very late in God of War Ragnarok, there's a shocking twist where it's revealed that the Norse God of War Tyr was really Odin the whole time. Odin uses this disguise to trick Kratos, Atreus, and the rest of the characters that are conspiring against them, listening in on their plans, killing Brok, and attempting to steal the mask he wants.

It's likely that there are other instances of Odin using his powers to take on the form of others throughout God of War Ragnarok's story that have yet to be discovered, and it will be interesting to see if the community is able to figure them all out. If nothing else, finding hidden Odins could be a good excuse to replay the game, especially since it's unlikely that there will be any God of War Ragnarok DLC to bring players back.

God of War Ragnarok is available now for PS4 and PS5.
