Just ahead of God of War Ragnarok’s November 9 release, Sony Santa Monica Studio has revealed the graphics modes players will be able to choose from on both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. The game offers a variety of graphics modes focused on maximizing either performance or visual quality, letting players choose which experience they prefer when taking on the new enemies in God of War Ragnarok.God of War Ragnarok is the sequel to 2018’s God of War, taking place three years after the first game’s conclusion and following Kratos and his demigod son Atreus as they try to prevent Ragnarok, the end of the world in Norse mythology. Sony Santa Monica Studio has stated that the game will serve as a conclusion to the Norse era of Kratos’ saga but has otherwise kept a tight lid on story details. The developer even recently took to Twitter after some players received their copies of the game early, asking fans to avoid spreading God of War Ragnarok spoilers until after the game’s official release.RELATED: God of War Ragnarok Confirms Transmog SystemIn another tweet from Sony Santa Monica Studio, gamers were given a breakdown of the various graphic modes available for God of War Ragnarok on the PS5, as well as the Pro and standard models of the PS4. On the PS4 Pro, players willing to forego some graphical polish for smoother action can choose a Performance mode offering frame rates of 30 FPS or higher in exchange for occasionally dropping to 1080p. Quality mode allows the game to run at higher resolutions, but players may experience occasional dips below 30 FPS. God of War Ragnarok players on the standard PS4 will be limited to 1080p with a 30 FPS target frame rate.

For PS5, God of War Ragnarok will include six different graphics modes to choose from, letting players prioritize either graphical quality or performance. The Performance modes will offer the expected 60 FPS frame rate and resolutions up to 2160p. The higher frame rates will be available on displays that support a variable refresh rate. For the ultimate in visual fidelity, Quality mode offers 30 FPS frame rate at native 4K. Like Performance mode, Quality mode can also run at lower resolutions to allow for faster frame rates on some displays. Regardless of which graphics mode gamers prefer, they can now preload God of War Ragnarok ahead of the game’s release.

No matter which console or graphics mode players choose, God of War Ragnarok promises to be one of the most visually stunning and action-packed titles of the year. After a recent PC release helped the first God of War reach a sales milestone, many PC gamers are undoubtedly hoping this exciting sequel will head to their preferred platform next.
