Players have been diligently combing over the latest trailer for God of War Ragnarok, looking for any little secrets and details to clue them into what is in store for Kratos and Atreus, but one player's discovery shows how Thor may control his hammer, Mjolnir. Santa Monica Studio has been fairly quiet up to this point about their iteration on the Norse God of Thunder and his role in Kratos' latest journey, only showing what he will look like in-game and confirming Sons of Anarchy star Ryan Hurst will be playing him.

It appears, though, that this latest trailer let slip the unique manner Thor controls the weapon he will use against Kratos when the two clash on the road to Ragnarok. The detail was caught by Reddit user xyz_x, who posted the clip from the end of the God of War Ragnarok trailer which closed out PlayStation's September 2022 State of Play.

The Reddit user's clip focuses specifically on the end of the trailer where players get their first glimpse of Kratos and Thor locked in a one-on-one battle where both gods hurl their respective weapons at each other. It was here in the clip that xyz_x noticed that while Kratos recalls the Leviathan Axe as he did in 2018's God of War, Thor appears to snap his fingers to recall Mjolnir before trying to attack Kratos.

In 2018's God of War, it is made clear through the various Jotnar Shrines and Mimir's stories this version of Thor is equally arrogant and violent given his path of carnage against the Jotnar using Mjolnir. His wrath isn't restricted to his enemies, as his son Modi learned in the 2018 game after his altercation with Kratos alongside his brother Magni, which results in Modi facing his father's wrath. It would stand to reason that, given his apparent arrogance, Thor's use of Mjolnir would reflect this while locked in battle with Kratos.

It can also lend itself to players who may argue Thor will be more important to the game's overall story compared to the King of Asgard himself, Odin. On the one hand, it is not an unfounded argument as Thor appears to have a more active part in the story while Odin will operate behind the scenes. However, Odin is integral to Ragnarok and, depending on how events in the upcoming game unfold, can easily see him supplant anyone else across the Nine Realms in terms of overall importance.

Ultimately, it is one small piece of speculation from a trailer teasing a truly epic experience waiting for Kratos and Atreus at the end of Fimbulwinter. Santa Monica studios doesn't appear to be holding back for its next game, diving deep into Norse mythology to ensure the game lives up to its title when the game ends.

God of War: Ragnarok is scheduled to release November 9, 2022, for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
