God of War quickly blew up when it launched back in 2018, with many fans praising the more intimate story of a father learning to raise a child, while also updating the camera and making the combat feel heavier. Only two years after the release, developer Santa Monica Studio announced that the much-anticipated sequel God of War: Ragnarok would come out in 2021. Back in June of this year, the developer then announced that God of War: Ragnarok will be delayed to 2022.

Santa Monica Studio didn’t give a specific release date, instead just dropping God of War: Ragnarok in 2022 during which many other large PlayStation 5 games will release. With several trailers for God of War: Ragnarok now released, fans were given a look at some of the changes the sequel will bring to the franchise such as updated combat mechanics and look of Kratos and Atreus.

Reddit user Kdoggdracul has shared an amazing digital painting of Kratos from God of War: Ragnarok. Although not confirmed on the post, the image is inspired by his slightly updated look in God of War: Ragnarok. In some portions of the trailer for the sequel, Kratos can be seen wearing a lot more fur to keep warm, but in other scenes, he’s not wearing this, and instead wears what appears to be a slightly updated strap from his 2018 version. On Kratos’s right side, there is a silver plating of some kind that is absent from the 2018 version. Although specific details are difficult to see in the painting due to its simplistic nature, silver coloring can be seen on Kratos’s right side.

Because news on highly anticipated sequel most likely won’t pick up for some time, content such as the God of War: Ragnarok animated cover art has been made by fans. This particular painting from Kdoggdracul was also interesting because of how vibrant it makes the titular character appear.

Perhaps the most striking detail from the painting is Kratos’s eyes which appear more detailed than the rest but also still mix a variety of colors. It’s an incredibly well-done piece of art that stands out more because of the black backdrop, giving focus to how bright everything else appears. Although this particular piece of art focuses on Kratos, God of War: Ragnarok fans have also focused on Arteus in their art.

While some God of War fans are awaiting news by drawing great pieces of fan art, some are creating discussions based on the franchise and its characters. One such discussion fans are asking is whether are not 2018’s Kratos could beat his younger self. There have also been discussions on how great the 2018 Kratos looks compared to his younger self and with fan art like the one shown above, it’s easy to see why 2018’s Kratos is as popular as he is.
