God of War is filled to the brim with beautiful scenery, epic fights, and incredible creatures at every turn, which is why Sony Santa Monica is bringing a photo mode to the latest installment of the God of War franchise. During a launch celebration livestream, PlayStation sat down with the developer team at Sony Santa Monica to show off the upcoming photo mode and how it can capture all of the epic moments Kratos and Atreus share on their journey.

God of War’s photo mode currently has no expected release date, but in the footage shown during the livestream, the feature is coming along nicely. Photo mode was delayed due to the team at Sony Santa Monica focusing on polishing and fine-tuning one of the best games of the year so far.

The photo mode will include a series of different filters and camera options for framing the perfect shot, as well as the ability to control facial expressions for Kratos and Atreus. Players will even be able to make Kratos smile – a rare sight for the stoic Spartan.

Sony Santa Monica’s 5-year project is a massive hit with critics and fans alike. God of War director Cory Barlog even shared a heartfelt reaction video of himself seeing the review scores for his passion project. Barlog broke down in happy tears when the review scores started rolling in on Metacritic, happy that critics saw the beauty of the game just like he did.

On a funnier note, PlayStation Europe released an entertaining parody trailer for God of War yesterday, which turned Kratos from hard-hitting dad to man’s best friend.  The spoof trailer shows off what Kratos and Atreus would look like, if God of War was a four-legged adventure game.

God of War’s photo mode will certainly make the already great game even better. While we don’t know when photo mode will make its way to Midgard, fans will surely make some great creations with it when it does.

God of War is available now exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
