As evidenced in our review of Sony and Santa Monica Studio's action-adventure epic God of War, the PlayStation 4 exclusive is easily one of the best looking games to ever grace a console, as it's environments are diverse, expansive, and filled with a wide range of beautiful colors and scenery. With this being the case, it makes sense as to why fans would want to be able to pause and take in the visuals every now and again to capture each moment within a still frame. Thankfully, they will be able to do just that with the official release of the game's Photo Mode today.

As seen below in a select few stills from God of War's Photo Mode shared by Santa Monica Studio's Engineering Lead, Jeet Shroff, Patch 1.20 will allow players to direct and create their own images through the lenses of their own directorial cameras. The feature adds a suite of tools letting fans manipulate the camera itself, change aperture settings, add filters, incorporate borders, toggle the visibility of all the characters in a scene, and even change Kratos and Atreus' facial expressions.

Several weeks ago, Sony and Santa Monica Studio hosted a livestream that displayed God of War's Photo Mode in action, with Jeet Shroff showing off its aspects to a panel that included director Cory Barlog, who stated that the feature was discussed early on in development. Instead of making Photo Mode a priority, though, Barlog wanted to ensure that the game itself was as good as it could be, which caused the feature to be pushed to a post-launch addition.

Now that Photo Mode is available in God of War, those jumping into it for the first time and the myriad fans who are already on their second or third playthrough will surely try to utilize it as much as possible without slowing the flow of the game. Of course, this should prove difficult due to the fact that practically frame is gorgeous and worthy of savoring.
