Insight Editions has published the first officially licensed God of War cookbook, featuring recipes inspired by the Norse realms of Midgard, Alfheim, Jötunheim, and beyond. This hardcover book is the latest cookbook inspired by a video game and the first to feature Kratos and his son Atreus.

While Kratos and Atreus are hunters, they are rarely seen eating in the God of War games. In 2018’s God of War, the father-son duo only ate a few apples and drank some mead. The recently released God of War Ragnarok shed more light on their diet, showing the two sharing a meal with some other characters. They were eating sausage with some beans and bread, but the God of War cookbook offers more recipes than the ones shown in the games.

God of War: The Official Cookbook of the Nine Realms is now available for all hungry fans of Kratos and his son Atreus. This cookbook is a collaboration between Victoria Rosenthal, the prolific author of various gaming-inspired recipes such as the Final Fantasy 14 recipe book, and Rick Barba, author of God of War: Lore and Legends. Iris Compiet illustrated the cookbook, drawing exclusive sketches to go alongside the recipes.

All meals are inspired by the setting of 2018’s God of War and its sequel God of War Ragnarok, both of which take place in the nine realms of Norse mythology. Each recipe comes with an introduction paragraph explaining how this meal fits in the God of War universe, bringing additional lore to the series. The step-by-step directions allow all players to try preparing the recipes, no matter their previous cooking experience. A picture shows how the meal will look once completed, and a sketch drawing depicts either a character or creature in relation to the dish.

God of War fans are not the only ones able to cook meals inspired by their favorite game. Gaming cookbooks are gaining in popularity, making for a great holiday gift and a nice addition to any gamer's library. 343 Industries recently released an official Halo cookbook with over 70 recipes ranging from portable snacks to "decadent spreads to feed the entire squadron." The Witcher, Destiny, Street Fighter, The Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft, and other popular gaming franchises already have their own cookbooks, and God of War: The Official Cookbook of the Nine Realms is now joining this collection with meals fit to feed a demi-god.
