With God of War now having been out for over a month, it's safe to presume that many who helped the action-adventure epic break PlayStation 4 exclusive sales records have completed all that the title currently has to offer, leaving them with hopes that there might more content in the future. According to director Cory Barlog, that could be the case, as he is currently pushing for the team at Santa Monica Studio to add a New Game Plus mode.

According to a recent interview held between Barlog and the outlet GamingBolt, the God of War director explained that New Game Plus was a feature Santa Monica Studio initially wanted to add, but it never was able to find the time to do so during the title's creation. As explained by Barlog, New Game Plus got "pushed down the list" of priorities in order to make room for "a lot of other stuff" such as "stability, and polish".

Barlog provided further details in regards to God of War's lengthy development and why such highly coveted features as the New Game Plus mode didn't make the cut at launch, as Santa Monica Studio "literally worked to the last second, refining and polishing, and tuning, and trying to make [GoW] as perfect as possible." As stated by the director, the process to ensure that the base game was as solid as it could be also contributed to "why Photo Mode didn’t even get started until after [the game] went Gold."

Taking this into consideration, it's understandable as to why Santa Monica Studio decided to put such extraneous features as New Game Plus and Photo Mode as items to be dealt with at a later date, especially since the final product offered such a sizable and enjoyable amount of content at launch. After all, the title received a plethora of positive reviews and reception from both fans and critics alike since it released last month, which certainly shows that the smartest decision was for the developer to lay a firm foundation before turning its attention to the window dressings.

While Barlog has said that he and Santa Monica Studio think New Game Plus would be a great addition to God of War and "love that kind of concept", the director isn't making any promises of it ever being in the title. Offering his final piece on the matter, Barlog said, "It is definitely something that I am still trying to convince people of, but we’ll have to see where it shakes out." So, hopefully, we will see New Game Plus at some point down the line.

God of War is available now for PlayStation 4.
