After its impressive reveal two years ago at E3 2016, Kratos is finally making his long-awaited debut on the PlayStation 4 in April. Last week, Sony unveiled a lengthy story trailer for the upcoming action game, finally giving fans a look at where the story is heading, but for many, the most exciting aspect was finally seeing an actual release date.  While this new God of War title looks to shake up the series traditional formula, a recent update to the ESRB ratings may have revealed the return of a series staple.

It's worth noting that the following may be considered a minor spoiler, so for those who want to experience the game fresh, reader beware.

Yesterday, the ESRB made a pretty sneaky change to the description for God of War, removing a section that may have accidentally outed the return of the signature chain blades. Captured and posted by Wario64, the original description revealed that players would be using axes, double-chained blades, and swords to battle various enemies. The recent update has obscured those details a bit, removing the double-chain blades mention and replacing it with bows.

What's not clear is if this description was updated to hide potential spoilers or if the ESRB made a general mistake and corrected it. While fans will likely have to wait until April to find out, there are plenty of hints in the latest trailer for a potential reunion with the signature chain weapons. The latest story trailer showed a scene a little after the 2-minute mark of Kratos looking down at his arms, with the bandages slowly unravelling. Viewers are clearly meant to make a connection between the unwrapped bandages to his iconic chain blades, but up until this point, only the new magic Leviathan Axe has been seen as a melee weapon.

The new axe and Norse setting are not the only major changes waiting for players inside God of War. This latest game takes a more cinematic approach, which means the game was developed with a "one-shot" camera style in mind, similar to another major Sony franchise: Uncharted. Sony Santa Monica has also done away with violent camera cuts, quick time events, and has even removed the jump button. The biggest change to the formula may be the fact that Kratos appears to be a father now. During the campaign, Kratos will be accompanied by Atreus who can help out during combat and can be upgraded to be more effective.

God of War releases on April 20 exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
