The console war between Sony and Microsoft has been going on for nearly two decades. As such, PlayStation has tried to get an edge over Xbox through its exclusives, some of which have proven very successful. God of War, which began on the Playstation 2 in 2005, follows Kratos, a former Spartan warrior who is betrayed by Ares. After killing Ares, Kratos becomes the new God of War. When his father Zeus becomes fearful of his strength and betrays him too, Kratos heads out on a quest to destroy all of Olympus.

As a God, Kratos is incredibly powerful, so much so, one cannot help but wonder if he would be able to defeat villains from other games. There are definitely a few that Kratos can beat, but there are also villains who can defeat him.

10 Could Defeat: Kerrigan

Kerrigan may have become the universe's savior at the end of StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void, but she spent the majority of the series as the Queen of Blades. She ruled over the Zerg, an insect-like race that would infest entire worlds while continuously evolving.

Kerrigan is capable of producing storms and shock waves through raw psychic energy, but Kratos can power through such abilities thanks to all the battles he's had with actual Gods. Furthermore, thanks to his Blades of Chaos, he can mow down most of the Zerg that would stand in his way.

9 Would Lose To: Sephiroth

Final Fantasy 7 is arguably the most beloved entry in the long-running franchise. Sephiroth is the game's main villain and he possesses superhuman physical traits that pair well with his natural fighting ability.

Sephiroth's weapon of choice is a 10-foot long katana, but he can also use a variety of powerful spells. However, what really makes Sephiroth a problem is his speed. He is able to instantaneously teleport if he wants to, and thanks to his psychic abilities, he could potentially read Kratos's mind. Obviously, that would be very problematic for the former Olympian.

8 Could Defeat: Bowser

Nintendo possesses some of the most iconic characters in all of gaming, and many of which belong to the Super Mario series. In 1985, players got a glimpse of Bowser for the first time, and he has been Mario's archenemy ever since.

Despite his bulky frame, Bowser is very fast and durable, but he is also capable of breathing fire, teleportation, manipulating his size, and electrokinesis. Bowser is constantly being defeated by a plumber, so it's safe to assume that he wouldn't be able to beat an actual God.

7 Would Lose To: Albert Wesker

Considering everything that Kratos has done, the idea of him losing to a virologist seems absurd. That said, there is a good chance of him losing if that virologist is Albert Wesker from the Resident Evil franchise. Wesker started out as a human, but he ended up gaining superhuman powers after coming into contact with a prototype virus.

This virus essentially turned Wesker into a god with insane regenerative healing and endurance. It took a literal volcano combined with a rocket launcher to the face to kill him, which means that most of Kratos' attacks would be meaningless.

6 Could Defeat: Dr. Robotnik

Dr. Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog

There have been many Sonic the Hedgehog games since 1991, and Dr. Robotnik has been the main antagonist the entire time. Robotnik is a genius who dreams about taking over the world with the help of his sinister robots, which would be the only real issue that Kratos would have to deal with.

Depending on which weapon he's using, Kratos could cut through these robots with ease, but he will have to dodge a couple of projectiles just to be safe. Once the machines are out of the way, all Kratos has to do is punch Robotnik once with his god-like strength.

5 Would Lose To: Dracula

The original Castlevania was released in 1986, and it has since spawned multiple sequels and the Lords of Shadow series. In most of the games, Dracula is the final boss, and for good reason, because he is a fairly overpowered villain.

The legendary vampire has the ability to use fire and blood magic, either of which can defeat Kratos alone, but Dracula can also teleport and transform into various creatures in order to amplify his powers. He can also absorb the souls of monsters to gain their abilities. If that wasn't enough, Dracula can also create an army of minions through Devil Forging.

4 Could Defeat: Ganondorf

Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series always focuses on a young adventurer named Link who must save the world from evil. That evil usually comes in the form of Ganondorf/Ganon, who wants to use the power of the Triforce to take over the world.

Ganondorf possesses very powerful dark magic and impressive physical strength, and he can even transform into a powerful giant creature. Despite all of those strengths, Ganondorf is always defeated by a teenager, and Kratos is no teenager. He is a hardened veteran who has killed Gods and Titans, all of whom were immortal and possessed special abilities of their own.

3 Would Lose To: Oryx

destiny oryx

To this day many Destiny fans consider The Taken King to be the series' best expansion, and Oryx is a major part of that. Oryx is a Hive God that has lived for millions of years.

Kratos would not stand a chance against Oryx because the Hive ruler can transport him to another plane of existence and "Take" him by binding him to his will. If he does manage to destroy Oryx's body, Kratos will have to venture into the Taken King's Throne World to finish him off, but that isn't an easy task because reality is different there and there is an army of Hive and Taken to get through first.

2 Could Defeat: Shao Kahn

mortal kombat movie nathan jones shao kahn

Shao Khan is undoubtedly the most well-known villain of the Mortal Kombat franchise. Aside from being the emperor of Outworld, he is an immortal who is capable of living for thousands of years and also possesses God-level strength.

Kratos already fought someone like this in God of War III when he defeated his half-brother Hercules on Olympus. This fight would pretty much end the same way because Kratos' physical strength is either equal to Khan's or greater. Ultimately, the Blades of Chaos would be the real difference makers because their ranged attacks would make Khan's hammer ineffective.

1 Would Lose To: Shang Tsung

Shang Tsung has been a part of Mortal Kombat since the very beginning, and unlike Shao Khan, this villain is incredibly smart and cunning. He is also a powerful sorcerer who is capable of shapeshifting and manipulating fire, but he can also steal people's souls in order to prolong his own life.

In Mortal Kombat 11Shang Tsung acquires Kronika's crown and steals the Titaness' soul, thus taking her place as The Keeper of Time and Architect of Destiny. Kratos has battled the Fates and won, but Shang Tsung is far more powerful than them. He can control space and time at a whim while also being able to summon enemies from Kratos' past to help in the battle.
