The God of War franchise has featured some epic boss battles and enemy showdowns, but the Valkyrie boss fights in the 2018 entry top anything the series has offered in terms of difficulty. With 9 total Valkyrie boss fights in the game, God of War will put players to the test but only if they choose to pursue them.
The Valkyrie boss fights in God of War are completely optional but are well worth completing if players are up to the challenge. While there are 9 boss fights, there are only 8 Valkyries to find and fight and defeating all of them unlocks a final fight with the Valkyrie queen.
Each Valkyrie has a similar set of base attacks that players will learn to counter as they go. Some of them can be parried (as indicated by the yellow glow) while others need to be dodged or interrupted by Atreus’ arrows. Depending on the difficulty level, God of War players should choose the safest route. For example, sometimes it’s better to dodge an attack if the parry feels too risky.
In addition to their basic attacks, the Valkyrie bosses also have a handful of unique attacks. Usually these attacks can be quite devastating if not avoided/parried, but because they will be new to players some might want to go in with a plan. One of the best rules of thumb is to try to knock each Valkyrie out of the air at any opportunity. Throw Kratos’ Leviathan axe or use Atreus’ arrows, but be prepared.
After defeating the 8 Valkyrie boss fights in God of War, players will unlock a showdown with Sigrun, the Valkyrie Queen. As one might expect, Sigrun is the hardest of the Valkyrie fights and for some players the fight will be one of the hardest they’ve ever attempted.
Sigrun’s move set combines all of the strongest attacks from the other 8 Valkyrie boss fights, only dialed up to the next level. If players are on the Give Me God of War or New Game Plus difficulty, Sigrun can take them out in just a few hits, so some of the bolder strategies will go out the window.
Besting Sigrun the Valkyrie Queen in God of War will unlock a Ps4 trophy, some decent gear and enchantments, but mostly it offers a feeling of accomplishment. Some players will spend hours on the boss fight, which makes victory all the more satisfying.
