A God of War fan decided to make their own version of the game in just five days, posing the question of who can do it better, a multimillion dollar studio like Santa Monica or some "random bozo." Given that God of War Ragnarok is receiving very high scores from critics, the official developer is perhaps better suited for making such a game, but it seems as though this person is going more for a comedic attempt rather than a serious remake that can challenge the official releases.

As one of the most celebrated hack and slash franchises in gaming, God of War has been around for quite some time, with the first entry coming out in 2005. It's pretty much been a mainstay of the genre since, especially on the PlayStation, and the 2018 reboot helped breathe new life into the series and into Kratos himself. Now that the follow-up is just around the corner and is likely to do well judging from current reviews, the future looks good for the axe-wielding, bearded protagonist. Whether Santa Monica Studio will begin work on a new installment after this cannot be said, but for now, there's this fan's janky attempt.

As spotted by The Gamer, a YouTube user known as DanCS set themselves the challenge of doing their own remake of God of War, or at least a rudimentary imitation of it. Giving themselves just five days to complete the project, there was precious little time wasted in getting to work. The first couple of days were spent animating Kratos, using a basic model found online. This meant getting him to swing his axe in a pseudo-realistic way. Later on came the enemies, who began life as T-posing zombies before being given a "drunk" walk. Finally, it was capped off with environmental surroundings, which the creator said came from a map their girlfriend made several years back.

Kratos is one of the most powerful video game characters, so DanCS deemed it vital to emphasize that as best they could in a short span of time. The final result is what many would expect for a game made in less than a week, even using readily available assets.

With the God of War reboot coming out on PC earlier this year, as well as Ragnarok releasing soon, fans of the series are more likely to stick to what the official studio has been putting out. That's not to say DanCS's efforts aren't impressive, but it's safe to say that their project is probably not going to put Santa Monica Studio out of business any time soon.

God of War Ragnarok releases November 9 for PS4 and PS5.
