God of War is due out in just a little over a month, yet Sony has still been secretive about what much of the game has in store. Luckily for fans who want to get a more comprehensive look at the game, some raw, unedited (aside from scene transitions) gameplay footage has leaked online, showing what the new God of War looks like in action.

The leaked gameplay footage appears to be early on in the game, as tutorial prompts appear on the screen for the player. In the footage, Kratos and his son Atreus are attacked by creatures, though the Ghost of Sparta is able to make quick work of them with his Leviathan Axe.

This new gameplay footage not only shows Kratos killing some monsters, but it also offers another look at how his son Atreus will be integrated into the combat. In the footage, we see Kratos give Atreus orders to shoot his bow at both a boss enemy as well as some unsuspecting foes they manage to sneak up on. We also get to see both Atreus and Kratos battling it out against monsters in close-quarters combat, which looked especially brutal and intense.

Beyond combat, this new footage also gives fans a look at how XP works in the new God of War. It appears that Kratos will earn XP for a variety of actions, like defeating enemies in combat as well as finding special items in the environment. This XP can be spent in Brok's Shop to upgrade Kratos's abilities and weapons.

Overall, this new footage of God of War should give fans one of their best looks at how the game actually plays. As we draw closer to its release next month, it will be interesting to see if Sony continues to be secretive about the project, or if it will reveal more gameplay footage in an official capacity.

God of War launches on April 20, exclusively for PlayStation 4.
