The God of War series is enjoying something of a resurgence lately, especially with a new installment due out at some point. As one of the most beloved PlayStation hack-and-slash titles, the franchise was given a rather hefty reboot in 2018, which altered the overall style and look of the game, as well as breathing new life into protagonist, Kratos. Since then, there has been recent news about the reboot coming to PC, and with that port due for release very soon, some gameplay footage gets shown at CES 2022, specifically by Nvidia.
In a YouTube video uploaded to the Nvidia GeForce channel, some footage from the up-and-coming God of War gives a general, if brief, overview of what this version of the game will look like on PC. The 34-second clip intends to show the company's own graphical technology, as well as tease some of the gameplay itself. According to a report from DSO Gaming, the release will support DUALSHOCK 4 and DualSense wireless controllers, which will be good news for fans who prefer a controller over mouse and keyboard, especially for third person games.
In particular, the footage aims to show off Nvidia's low latency Reflex technology, which a side-by-side comparison in the footage demonstrates. In the clip, it shows that, with Reflex turned off, Kratos succumbs to an attack from the beast he's fighting. While with it turned on, he's able to dodge out of the way in time, essentially showing that players will be able to time moves better. It's worth noting, however, that, according to the video description, the footage was captured on an Nvidia 30-series GPU and G-SYNC monitors.
On top of that, the report from DSO goes on to say that God of War on PC will support Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling upscaling technology, something that has become an industry standard lately. This AI-driven software enables the redrawing of pixels to make it comparable to higher resolutions being run natively. In general, the gameplay footage gives a brief insight into what the PC port of the game will look like, but mainly seems to want to show off Nvidia's own tech.
As for the series itself, there have been leaks about a possible God of War Ragnarok release date, which places the launch on September 30, 2022, though this has yet to be confirmed. If this is true, this year is shaping up to be quite an exciting time for fans of the God of War franchise.
God of War is available on PS4, and comes to PC on January 14, 2022.
