At E3 2016, Sony unveiled the debut trailer for a brand new God of War game, in development at SIE Santa Monica Studio. While there's long since been an expectation that the title would resurface at this year's show, there's now some early confirmation that it's set to have a major presence.

E3 2017 is just days away, and preparations are in full swing at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Today, images were posted to the internet depicting an advertising billboard spanning several floors of a nearby building, with the God of War logo clearly visible as one of the first elements being created.

This kind of advertising can often offer a preview of what games are going to be given the spotlight at the show. Last year, CD Projekt Red posted enormous banners promoting Gwent, before fans even knew that a standalone version of the card game was set to be unveiled.

God of War is one of Sony's biggest active franchises, so it's unsurprising that the game would be shown at E3 2017. However, this advertising push might give some indication as to when the game will release, which has been something of a hot topic over the last few months.

A few weeks ago, the voice actor portraying protagonist Kratos offered confirmation that the game wouldn't release before the end of 2017. If it is indeed set to launch in 2018, it remains to be seen whether it will be positioned as a major holiday title, or make its debut during a less competitive period.

There are still plenty of questions to be asked about the new God of War, but it seems we might get some answers once E3 2017 gets underway. The game was a huge hit at last year's event, and a similarly strong showing this year would give lots of PlayStation fans something to look forward to.

God of War is in development for PlayStation 4.
