PlayStation 4 fans can finally get their hands on Sony's next big exclusive, God of War. After being revealed officially two years ago, the long wait has paid off for developer Sony Santa Monica which has been pulling in outstanding reviews from critics and fans alike. While the review process is typically not seen by the public, Cory Barlog is offering fans a look behind the curtain.

The God of War director posted a new video to his personal YouTube channel, intending to give fans his reaction to reading all of the game reviews for the first time. Barlog is clearly nervous at the start of the video, worried about what people think of a game he and his team put five years of blood, sweat, and tears into. His nerves quickly give way to relief and a sense of pride at what was accomplished. An emotional Barlog goes on to reflect on his journey, thanking the people he worked with and revealing that the prospect of reading reviews for his game ultimately had him a bit freaked out.

Thankfully, all of the worry and nerves that Barlog initially felt turned out to be all for naught as reviews for God of War have been overwhelmingly positive. The Sony exclusive quickly went on to become the best reviewed PlayStation 4 so far. currently holding a 95 out of a possible 100 on Metacritic. Previous PlayStation 4 record holders were Persona 5Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, which all hold a 93 on the aggregate site.

This level of behind the scenes access is nearly unheard of in the gaming industry and it's always nice to see the hard work put into a game pay off for those people involved. God of War has clearly been a passion project for Barlog, as he's been a person that has been very open and talkative with the community. Whether holding an impromptu question and answer session over Twitter or defending a decision that went against previous games in the franchise, Barlog made sure to keep fans in the loop. Communication isn't always a strong suit with some studios, but Barlog's team clearly made sure it was a priority for this project.

God of War is now available exclusively for the PlayStation 4.
