God of War has a fairly interesting history as a franchise, with the series expanding into Norse mythology in its 2018 reboot, a far cry from the Greek roots the God of War franchise was used to at the time. However, that change led to fans asking what other religions exist in the God of War world, and Game Director Cory Barlog has confirmed a fairly interesting one.

Replying to a fan on Twitter, Barlog confirmed that the world of God of War includes Christianity. Of course, that raises some interesting questions about the franchise, and while it's unlikely that players will ever see Christianity addressed in a game series as violent as God of War, largely due to the controversy it would cause, it would be interesting to see how it would be represented in the game.

It also raises questions about what other world religions exist as part of the world. The idea of each known religion being represented in some way is interesting on its own, but even more so when considering how those worlds would mingle together. Previously, Barlog stated that the God of War series could visit Egyptian or Mayan cultures in future entries, and there are likely plenty of other possibilities that have been considered as well.

In general, it isn't a shocking revelation– many fans had assumed that the God of War universe was more than it seemed after Kratos moved from Greek to Norse mythology. In fact, the way that the series now approaches religion, even if it isn't addressed directly in-game, is interesting. How the process of moving between the worlds of different religions works would be interesting to see, especially if a potential God of War 2 showed Atreus, Kratos' son, move the process as his father had. It would be a wonderful opportunity for unique character development.

Insight into the God of War world is interesting to see. Hopefully, future entries in the revamped series will reveal more information about the world as a whole, and not just the individual mythologies themselves. It isn't clear what that would look like, but it may be something fans appreciate.

God of War is available now for PS4.
