Following the unveiling of its E3 2017 gameplay trailer, fans discovered that God of War for PlayStation 4 will not be coming out this year, but is in fact slated to release sometime in early 2018. However, if the details of a recent online retailer leak are any indication of what's to come, then not only will the action-adventure title be getting a digital deluxe edition, but also it will launch on June 30, 2018.

As seen in the screenshot below, this news comes by way of an Amazon listing that shows God of War's possible release date, and details the materials from a potential digital deluxe edition that's going to be sold for $70 (the contents of which can be found below). The listing for the special digital copy of the game has since been taken offline, so there's a chance that the post was either a mistake, or it was scrubbed from the site until an official announcement is made – the latter of which being the most likely scenario.

Of course, with neither Sony nor Santa Monica Studio having openly shared a definitive release date for God of War on PlayStation 4, the Amazon listing of the launch day might be incorrect, as the retailer could simply be using June as a placeholder date. With this being the case, the best course of action for fans to take is to remain skeptical regarding the information being given by the online store for the time being.

Not too long ago, though, Sony announced the dates of PlayStation Experience 2017, which would be a great place for the company to officially announce God of War's release date. After all, with the end-of-the-year bash will being a celebration of the company itself, it should feature the most prominent products it has on the way for the console and be host to the biggest news relating to them.

So, while it's still unconfirmed as to exactly when God of War is set to drop next year, it's safe to say that hype for the game has not diminished even though there hasn't been too much else divulged since director Cory Barlog revealed that he has "multiple" titles mapped and outlined, teasing that the story arc goes "well beyond" this entry in the franchise. With this being the case, one can only hope that God of War on PlayStation 4 serves as a solid bedrock for what's to come, and that its final release date is revealed soon.

God of War is set to release sometime in early 2018 for PlayStation 4.
