While God of War fans patiently remain on standby until Sony and Santa Monica Studio confirm the release date for the forthcoming PlayStation 4 exclusive, the companies have now decided to at least give gamers some eye candy while they wait. Today, the publisher and developer have revealed a collector's edition for the title dubbed the "Stone Mason Edition," which comes packaged with a handful of goodies, including a marvelous-looking statue of Kratos and Atreus.

As seen in the image further below for God of War's Stone Mason Edition, the aforementioned statue of the game's protagonist and his son is 9 inches tall, with the two standing side by side in battle while dealing with foes in their own respective way, as Kratos slashes with his axe, and Atreus stabs with an arrow. According to GameStop's description of the special edition of GoW, the statue is far from the only collectible, as the Stone Mason Edition includes the following:

  • Full Game
  • 9" Kratos & Atreus Statue by Gentle Giant
  • Limited Steelbook Case
  • 2" Huldra Brothers Carvings
  • Exclusive Lithograph
  • Cloth Map
  • Stone Mason's Ring
  • Mimir's Head Talking Keychain
  • 2" Horse and Troll Carvings
  • Digital Contents Include:
    • Defender of the Chosen Shield
    • Death's Vow Armor Set
    • Exile's Guardian Shield
    • God of War Digital Comic #0 by Dark Horse
    • God of War Digital Mini Artbook by Dark Horse
    • Dynamic Theme

Those looking to get their hands on a copy of God of War's Stone Mason Edition will likely need to start saving now, for the collector's package costs $150. While many might balk at such a price, it's worth noting that this GoW collectible package is far cheaper than some of the most expensive video game special editions. For instance, the recently released Middle-earth: Shadow of War's Mithril Edition was priced at $300 at launch, which is double the price than the Stone Mason Edition.

All things considered, there's no doubt that God of War is one of the most exciting PS4 exclusives of 2018, and the contents of the Stone Mason Edition are likely to increase the existing hype surrounding the game. Of course, while GoW's collectible package looks like a fantastic way to celebrate the franchise, it's safe to say that the most thrilling thing that Sony and Santa Monica Studio could do at this point would be to finally share an official release date.

God of War is currently scheduled to launch at some point in early 2018 for PlayStation 4.
