While God of War fans have been patiently waiting on news regarding the upcoming Ragnarok sequel, one artistic player has spent their time creating an interesting portfolio. For any God of War fans wondering what Kratos’ son could look like once he grows up, they can look to this artwork as a potential outcome.
While previous concept art from Santa Monica has revealed that Kratos once wielded two axes in combat, among other interesting changes, it is worth noting that this artwork is entirely fan-made. Not only could Atreus look nothing like this when he grows up, but it is entirely possible that fans never even see an adult version of Atreus in the God of War games. As such, players should not expect to see anything like this in a future game — even if the design is incredibly cool and well thought out.
This God of War fan art comes courtesy of Rodrigo Idalino, and the main piece showcases an older Atreus with a short beard, mohawk, and his signature bow and arrow. An intricate quiver rests on Atreus’ back, while his armor looks like a more protective version of what young Atreus wears in the 2018 game. Tattoos cover the characters’ arms to add a bit of detail, though the coolest detail is the character’s eyes and scar.
Boasting an injury over the eye that mimics Kratos’ red war paint, the scar is a good reminder of Atreus’ ties to the Ghost of Sparta. Seeing both this scar and the character's eyes light up a bright green plays off Atreus’ true identity of Loki in a brilliant way as well. Another interesting piece in the collection showcases how Idalino came up with his Atreus concept, with a look at different hairstyles and armor types that the artist sketched while coming up with a feel for designing the character.
Idalino’s final piece is not directly related to Atreus himself, but rather a weapon that he could wield. While utilizing the character’s bow skills would make sense and would likely happen if he ever leads a God of War title of his own, this fan-made take on Atreus would see him using a variant of the Blades of Chaos, too. Dubbed the Blades of Valhalla by the artist, the gold blades feature runes that light up blue when activated — making them appear as a stylish mix between the Leviathan Axe and Kratos’ classic swords.
With a few more pieces to look at, Rodrigo Idalino’s entire God of War Heritage project is worthy of a look. With players likely needing to wait a good bit longer for answers on God of War’s mural, it is hard to think of a better way for fans to kill some time.
