God of War 4 Tease Sony PS4 Event

Six long years have gone by since God of War 2 writer and director Cory Barlog walked away from the studio where Kratos was brought to life. What kind of project could bring Barlog back to Sony Santa Monica after more than half a decade? A "freaking huge" one, in his words. Barlog announced that he was "ready to come back home" to Sony Santa Monica Studio in a recent PlayStation.Blog post.

He didn't spill any details about what the new game actually is, but he did assure fans that the project will "rock the free world." Barlog is confident that the new game will live up to the standards that he helped establish at the studio.

Now that he is back at Sony, Barlog is hard at work assembling an Ocean's 11-esque ensemble of developers to work on the undisclosed project. He is searching high and low for the best developers available. Barlog even called out to aspiring developers reading his blog post.

"If you are a freaking rock star unafraid to take risks, reading this thinking that your current digs are feeling... well... a bit small, a bit dull and in need of some excitement - you need to contact me at Sony Santa Monica."

Tomb Raider Writer Talks Lowering Body Count

In the six years since God of War 2's release, Barlog has stayed busy in the industry. He worked on scripts for God of War 3 and the PSP's Ghosts of Sparta. More importantly, Barlog was a game director on God of War 3 for the first eight months of the project's development.

The dev has put in work outside of the franchise that helped put him on the map, as well. In 2008, he announced he was working with Avalanche Studios on an adaptation of the upcoming fourth Mad Max film, Fury Road. More recently, he directed the cinematics for the Tomb Raider reboot that was released earlier this year.

Barlog wrapped up his blog post by thanking fans for their continued support, which allows him to make "these crazy big games." He promised to keep working hard to make them, as long as the community continues to play them. He also reminded readers that if they decide not to play his games, "God will kill a puppy." A really cute one, too, based on the photo he posted.
