Goat Simulator 3 is the second installment in the silly goat-based games, which sounds a bit confusing, but is evidently the kind of vibe developer Coffee Stain Studios is aiming to perpetuate with this new entry. Not only is humor rampant throughout, but the game is also going to be referencing other well-known releases. With the Summer Game Fest trailer mocking the likes of Dead Island 2, the irreverence is very much front-loaded, and there is also a nod to an iconic id Software series.

In a recent report from PCGamesN, it seems Goat Simulator 3 will have a segment that's essentially a call-back to 1992's classic shooter Wolfenstein 3D. According to the demo, it seems players will encounter an old woman in a basement. At which point, the game will transition into the cuboid corridor look and style of the retro FPS, in which the goat protagonist will take on the now-evil granny who has turned into a boss. While there's no footage from this section at the moment, it sounds like it could be reminiscent of the fight between William "B.J." Blazkowicz and Mecha-Hitler, the original game's final boss.

Wolfenstein 3D is one of the most iconic first-person shooter games ever made, pre-dating the likes of Doom. While the 1993 antics of Doomguy is what helped popularize the genre, it was likely Wolfenstein that helped set the framework for early FPS titles. While Goat Simulator isn't in first-person, it's still a fitting tribute to this classic id Software game, and no doubt fans will get a kick of out of this, for nostalgia reasons if nothing else.

Recently, Goat Simulator 3 had its first gameplay trailer revealed at Gamescom. Fans of the first entry have come to expect a gratuitous amount of silliness from Coffee Stain's IP, and this new footage is no different. What's interesting about this up-and-coming title is that it will feature co-op mode, so multiple goats can cause havoc this time round.

When the first game was launched back in 2014, releasing on April Fool's Day of course, fans were highly amused by the fact that it was an intentionally bad and broken video game. Its goofy physics and the fact that the goal is to create as much wanton destruction as possible is what made it an indie hit. It became something of an overnight success, and its parody of other gaming franchises was that extra bit of icing on the ruminant cake.

Goat Simulator 3 will be available to play November 17, 2022, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
