The neon-lit city of New Baltia is available now for those wanting to explore the chaotic top-down action of Glitchpunk in its early access build. However, starting a playthrough this early on in development comes with a few quirks and bugs.

Right now, performance for the indie title isn't running as intended. FPS is dropping very low, textures are sparkling, and crashes are occurring. This is happening across all PC rigs, with RTX 3070 graphics card owners even reporting poor performance.

How to Improve Performance in Glitchpunk

As the top-down action title has a pixel art design, lowering the graphics settings won't damage its Cyberpunk-aesthetics too harshly, but can majorly improve the performance. However, this won't fix everything, and players will still run into the occasional stutter or graphical anomaly. There are also certain settings that should not be lowered, as doing so will actually make the game run worse.

Here are all the major settings players should use to improve performance in Glitchpunk:

  • Set Fog to "Low" instead of turning it off, as turning it off will activate an opaque filter
  • Turn off Pixelate Effect
  • Keep Post Processing at least "High" as any lower than this will drastically lower the brightness
  • Resolution Scaling should be kept to a minimum
  • Anti-Aliasing should not be any lower than "High" or textures will sparkle

If the gameplay is still juttery, players should visit a Hideout to save their progress, as this acts as a soft reset. It's also a good idea to visit Hideouts regularly anyway, as there are no autosaves in this early access build.

If players die, they will have all of their held items and weapons taken from them, which means they will have to make more money in Glitchpunk to pay for new guns and items. Developer Dark Lord is aware of the current performance bugs, and is working to improve them in future updates. For now, early access players will have to try and fix these problems themselves.

The first update for Glitchpunk is due one month after release and will add Outpost Texas, a new city for players to wreak havoc in. It could also include a patch to improve the performance, and add full controller support, but Dark Lord has not confirmed these will be included in the first update.

Glitchpunk is out now on early access for PC.
