As if there were doubts about the popularity of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and Benoit Blanc's detective charm, the film has broken into Netflix's Top 5 most-watched movies ever, with no sign of it stopping anytime soon.

Glass Onion was added to Netflix on December 23, 2022, after a brief week-long run in select movie theaters. The Knives Out sequel has proven to be the streamer's first true original movie franchise with yet another beloved entry starring Daniel Craig. With an ensemble cast featuring Edward Norton, Janelle Monáe, Kathryn Hahn, Kate Hudson, Dave Bautista, Jessica Henwick, Leslie Odom Jr. and Madelyn Cline, Glass Onion has effectively passed the first film, especially when it comes to viewership.

That last bit of information comes straight from Netflix, as the company’s data shows that this past weekend Glass Onion flew past The Adam Project to become the fifth most-watched film within 28 days after being dropped on the platform. The Knives Out sequel has totalled over 253 million hours worth of viewing, which should see it edge out The Gray Man, Netflix's most expensive movie ever, soon enough. However, the Knives Out sequel is still far from the top two positions, comfortably held by Red Notice and Don't Look Up.

A Poster For Glass Onion

As seen from the rankings, the other movie that holds a place in the top 5 is Bird Box at the number three spot. Netflix's highly decorated Martin Scorsese film, The Irishman, closes off at number ten. Since its premiere, Glass Onion has topped the streaming giant’s viewership charts, although it was recently dethroned by The Pale Blue Eye, starring Christian Bale, which came out last Friday.

At the time of writing, Glass Onion has 8 days left to continue drawing in viewers. Even though its numbers might have already been close to peaking, Netflix will be happy with the kind of attention the sequel can direct toward the original Knives Out, which, despite its success, is surprisingly nowhere near the aforementioned Top 10. Naturally, one element that certainly boosted Glass Onion's numbers was perfect timing, as its release around Christmas made it one of the preferred holiday movies.

With at least one more installment guaranteed in the future, Rian Johnson now knows what makes Knives Out work, and he'll surely be eager to continue implementing that formula with a different flavor for each subsequent Benoit Blanc case that follows.
