One character from Stieg Larsson's popular best-selling Millenium series is getting a new life on Amazon, this time within a television show. Amazon is reportedly developing an original TV series that centers on Lisbeth Salander of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.

However, the Amazon show isn't going to be a rehashing of the books. Rather, as Variety is reporting, it'll be an entirely new story with Salander placed in "today's world," featuring a very different set of challenges from those of the book.

Salander is the protagonist of Larsson's first book in the series, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. According to Variety, that's also the tentative title of Amazon's TV project, a collaboration between Amazon Studios, Left Bank Pictures, and Sony Pictures Television. No casting or writing team announcements have been made as of yet.

There wouldn't have been any shortage of material for the show between the all of the books, including The Girl Who Played with Fire, The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest, The Girl in the Spider's Web, The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye, and The Girl Who Lived Twice. Still, it's just as well that the new The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo show is going off on its own track; Lisbeth Salander is the protagonist of one book, but not of its sequels, though she does appear in all of them.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is in development at Amazon Studios.
