The Mandalorian star Giancarlo Esposito believes the upcoming season of the very popular Star Wars show is scheduled for a summer release on Disney Plus. The western-styled show follows a lone Mandalorian named Din Djarin as he travels across the galaxy running into new and sometimes familiar faces.

The Mandalorian is one of the pioneer live-action Star Wars projects that solidified the franchise's universe as the main attraction to the Disney Plus streaming service. Disney and Lucasfilm have since been developing numerous projects based on the iconic space opera franchise, including the highly anticipated Obi-Wan Kenobi spin-off series that will follow the titular hero during the events after the third mainline film.

One of the most popular characters of The Mandalorian is Moff Gideon, who is played by the talented Esposito. Recently, Esposito gave a little hint as to when fans can expect the return of The Mandalorian. Speaking on the Rich Eisen Show, the actor went on to say, "You’ll get it soon. I got a few things in regard to that to do to put some finishing touches on what I do, but I believe it’ll be sometime this summer. No date set yet, but coming soon." Now keep in mind that this is all alleged, as there may be any number of minor hiccups along the way. Plus, Disney has not made an official statement regarding The Mandalorian season 3's release date.

Until Disney gives an official announcement or even a trailer, fans should keep their expectations grounded, but this is very exciting news. Many had anticipated a holiday release, but if The Mandalorian season 3 comes out sooner, then this is great news because fans can catch up with their favourite father-son duo sooner. The upcoming Star Wars Celebration event on May 26 may also give fans an official statement, but regardless of when the date actually is, it's very likely that this show will not be pushed back into 2023.

Star Wars has really hit its stride in the past few years by keeping the content coming and varying the stories. The franchise has solid video game releases such as Star Wars: Jedi: Fallen Order and Star Wars: Rogue Squadron. It also has animated television shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: The Bad Batch, as well as live-action shows The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. This doesn't even include the upcoming projects such as Ahsoka, Andor and Obi Wan Kenobi.

The television format has benefited the Star Wars franchise more than anyone would expect, but here's to hoping that a very solid movie will one day see the light in the theaters. This is originally where Star Wars started, so it would be nice to see a movie that everyone can universally agree on as being great. Regardless of how any of these upcoming projects turn out, there's never an excuse to repeat the harassment done to those who worked on the last three mainline films. Passion doesn't excuse toxic behaviour, so let's hope that this franchise brings people together rather than apart.

The Mandalorian seasons 1-2 are now available on Disney Plus.
