Ghostwire: Tokyo features many side quests and collectibles as protagonists pursue their main mission. For example, early in the game, the player will encounter a Tanuki boss who has lost all of his fellow Tanuki.

Accepting the task from this Tanuki will begin the "Tanuki Hunt" quest line, and thus the search for Tanuki is on. There are 25 total Tanuki in Ghostwire: Tokyo, and the boss informs the player of their especially elusive nature. Due to the Visitor incursion, the Tanuki have disguised themselves as inanimate objects. Fortunately, they have one flaw in their perfect disguise: their tail will stick out still.

Finding Tanuki

Locating the Tanuki can be quite difficult at times, but fortunately the player has a lot of options and tools available to streamline the process. The player can use their Spectral Vision which will reveal any interactive objects around them. This includes Tanuki, who can be identified easily by their fluffy tail that will be outlined in the highlight.

Players can also read the thoughts of cats and dogs that roam the empty streets of Tokyo. Occasionally they will provide dialogue clues as to the whereabouts of hidden Tanuki in the nearby vicinity. Finally, the player is able to locate Offering Boxes at their respective shrines and provide a donation which will allow them to reveal the location of whatever was asked for on the map directly.

Not all shrines are equal in Ghostwire: Tokyo. Some have only one Tanuki, others have multiple, while some have even none at all. Fortunately, there is only one Tanuki located in the Saihama Building Rooftop Torii Gate Shrine.

First, the player will need to clear the shrine of any wandering Visitors. There are a couple on the ground, and then three floating ones surrounding a ladder. Use this ladder to gain access to the rooftop. Once the shrine is cleared and the fog has been cleansed, the player should be able to locate the Tanuki fairly easily.

This shrine's borders are not very big, so the player can simply jump down to the ground in the middle of the block and activate Spectral Vision, which should reveal to the player the Tanuki location if they've got a keen eye. This Tanuki will be very close to the north of the shrine map marker, and it is in an alleyway disguised as an exaggerated Tanuki statue, funnily enough. Interacting with the Tanuki will reveal it, and it will provide the player with some dialogue and then reward them for their efforts with 100 XP and an emote. This emote is called "Ground Sit 2."
