Ghostwire: Tokyo is similar to its open-world counterparts in its wide range of side quests and collectibles to distract players from the main mission. Early in the game the player will encounter a side quest with a certain bossy Tanuki.

In Ghostwire: Tokyo, this Tanuki leader will inform the player that they have lost sight of all 25 of their Tanuki fellows, and they task the player with locating them and informing them to return to the boss. Tanuki are very clever, and have disguised themselves as inanimate objects so that the Visitors do not detect them. The player will need to have their wits about them in order to locate all the missing ones.

Locating Tanuki

There are a few different methods available that will aid in the discovery of the Tanuki. The player will note that even though they are disguised, their secret is given away by their fluffy tail with will protrude from their rear. When out and about, the player can use Spectral Vision, which will highlight all interactive objects around them. This will also highlight any disguised Tanuki, and will outline their tail as well for easier identification. The player can upgrade this Spectral Vision to extend its range for easier finding.

Another way of locating Tanuki is by reading the thoughts of cats and dogs who are wandering the streets of Tokyo. They will give occasional clues as to the whereabouts of their furry friends if they are nearby. Alternatively, some shrines will have an Offering Box, which the player can donate to, and it will reveal the location of whatever they asked for on the map.

To find the Tanuki hidden in the Chishima Shrine, go directly north of the shrine map marker. The player should note the park on their left side as they navigate north. Be wary of any Visitors. Players should eventually run into a small paved clearing with a phone booth and a small park. If the player looks to the left and slightly up, they should see that the park area is elevated from their position, and right in their view should be a conspicuous-looking phone booth in the corner of a fence. The player should note that this phone booth indeed has a tail, and thus is the hidden Tanuki.

The fence, of course, is in the way, so the player will need to climb the nearby building in order to hop the fence and get inside. From there, they should be able to interact with the lovable Tanuki who, like the others, will provide the player some dialogue and then reward them for their efforts with 100 XP and an emote. The emote in this case is called "Wall Lean."
