Wield a katana and wander the streets of cybervoid, a city that has been left standing in the wake of a world-ending disaster. Ghostrunner is a fast-paced action-adventure game that has captivated thousands of gamers to become a fan of the first-person perspective (FPP) genre.

Ghostrunner teases players with countless ways to kill enemies and take charge of a cyberpunk city in need of a hero. With a host of abilities and technological upgrades to enhance the thrill of ascending the Dharma Tower, gamers can perform a number of moves to mutilate foes and earn achievements early on. However, not all options that the player has are obvious right away.

10 Evade Enemy Attacks With Sensory Boost

Sensory Boost is a basic ability in Ghostrunner that lets players slow down time. While Sensory Boost is active, players can move to their left or right to avoid any incoming damage. Beginners should get used to this ability as it can help them dodge attacks and move smoothly through the cybervoid without getting killed.

Since it’s a frequently used ability, players can use Sensory Boost in a wide variety of ways. Gamers can jump from platform to platform, land on places that are out of reach on the map, and execute complex kills. There are infinite ways to use Sensory Boost, so be sure to experiment.

9 Reduce The Cooldown On Dash

Ghostrunner - Ghostrunner using dash on ground

Dash is a basic mechanic that allows gamers to jump forward in the direction they are facing. By holding down the crouch button while using Dash, players can move significantly faster. This combination of Crouch and Dash can be used throughout the game to side-step enemies and navigate the cybervoid with ease.

There’s a minor cooldown for Dash that the player must wait out before being able to use it again. This somewhat limits its utility at first; however, as players succeed in completing the levels in Ghostrunner, they can unlock upgrades to make Dash a more reliable asset. Unlocking the Dash: Cooldown upgrade in Ghostrunner can considerably reduce its refresh rate.

8 Use Abilities To Kill Enemies With Shields

Ghostrunner features a melee combat system that relies on the katana to slash enemies. Among the many enemies that players encounter throughout Ghostrunner, the Enforcer can be a particularly tricky enemy to kill. This gunman bears a shield that guards him against frontal attacks.

Attacking the Enforcer head-on will cause Ghostrunner to be repelled, as the enemy shoots three bullets back-to-back before taking a second to reload. Use Dash or Sensory Boost to get behind the Enforcer for the kill. While the shield does reflect attacks from the katana, it does not protect the enemy from abilities like Dash and Surge.

7 Charge The Focus Gauge With Deflect

Players can bounce bullets and other projectiles back at enemies with Deflect. When outnumbered by foes, deflect can block attacks and bury enemies before they can close in for the kill. Upgrades for Deflect can be unlocked at different levels. For example, in the level Faster, players can unlock the Deflect: Absorb upgrade, which lets players refill the focus gauge on every fatal strike.

For players that find their focus gauge constantly running low, this is a godsend. What's more, new players that constantly empty out the focus gauge can also unlock the Focus: Elimination Boost upgrade to increase the amount refilled per kill.

6 View Enemies Better With Tactical Overlay

Dashing around Dharma Tower in a cyberpunk scenario can be highly satisfying for FPS and FPP game fans. However, the high-speed environment and vibrant visuals can make it hard to identify enemies lurking around corners. Although the Sensory Boost can help players slow time and evaluate the situation at hand, beginners can opt to equip the Tactical Overlay upgrade to make it easier to spot enemies out in the open. This makes it much easier for players to stay on their guard.

Players can unlock Tactical Overlay in The Climb level. An additional upgrade for Tactical Overlay can be unlocked in the In Her Own Image level and lets players view enemies through walls and other obstructions.

5 Increase The Speed Of Surge

Surge is one of the most used abilities in Ghostrunner. The long range and the intensity of the shock wave that Surge creates make it highly advantageous in battle, and it can be used to destroy multiple enemies at once.

Fortunately, players can unlock all the additional ability upgrades of Surge in the level In Her Own Image. Unlocking the Surge: Speed upgrade makes the shock wave move much faster. This ability upgrade is especially useful in fighting mechanical monstrosities such as wrecks and turrets, without getting in the line of fire.

4 Equip Vintage Sentinel As The Katana Skin

There are 15 unique sword skins in Ghostrunner that the player can obtain. The Sentinel is a sharp blade that can be acquired in the level Jacked Up. Its black and yellow color combination stands out from the rest of the skins, and makes it a right fit for slaying enemies in Dharma Tower.

Players that love the Sentinel will definitely want to unlock the Vintage Sentinel, a special version of the sword. This variation of the Sentinel sword skin has an added texture of brown stains and a rustic look that makes it a collector’s edition.

3 Collect Artifacts On Different Levels

It can take anywhere between eight to eleven hours to beat the game. Apart from slashing enemies and dashing through platforms, players can venture into the cybervoid to find artifacts that are hidden away in each level. There are a total number of 35 artifacts in Ghostrunner.

The artifacts can give players a deeper insight into the lore of Ghostrunner. Among the most interesting finds are the Propaganda Poster, Chikara IV Implant, The Climber’s Token, Projector, Rebreather, Ghostrunner Poster, Architect Bust, and The Hammers Gang Insignia.

2 Gather Information Through Audio Logs

In addition to the artifacts in the game, players can also collect audio logs from different stages to learn more about the Dharma Tower, its purpose, and its creator. These audio logs are cryptic messages from Adam, the visionary responsible for the construction of Dharma Tower.

The audio logs reveal that Adam was a close acquaintance of Mara, the Keymaster, and the Architect. Adam was also closely involved with the Ghostrunner project, and openly speaks about achieving a fully sentient artificial intelligence to carry his will. The game's story wouldn’t be complete without gathering these gems of information.

1 Unlock Venom TsuruGR For The Sword

Although the sword is the only melee weapon in the game, Ghostrunner features several unlockable sword styles that make it exciting to play. The Venom TsuruGR is a colorful blade with splashes of pink, green, black, and white. It makes the katana look like graffiti art and makes the game more fun to fight with.

The Venom TsuruGR can be found in the level Run Up. Every attack made with the Venom TsuruGR in the cybervoid makes it a masterstroke for friends and fans to enjoy.

Ghostrunner is available to play on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
