Ghostbusters Video Game Remaster Confirmed for This Year

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered title

A leak occurred earlier this month when a remaster for Ghostbusters: The Video Game was leaked via a Taiwanese ratings board. It was rumored to be in development for Xbox One, though it was presumed that the remaster would be available on other platforms as well, should the leak hold merit. Today, the rumor is proven true, as Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered has been revealed for release later this year.

Initially, 2009 had seen the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, which received high praise for its entertaining gameplay, storytelling, and authentic performances from the original movie actors. One decade later, the game is receiving a remaster with modernized updates on current-get consoles.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game will be remastered in 4K resolution, enhancing cutscenes and live gameplay. As well, the upcoming remaster will feature upgraded textures and lighting effects.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered otherwise seems to offer the original game as it was 10 years ago. The trailer does not depict any changes gameplay-wise, as per the nature of remasters, and there do not appear to be any story alterations. Rather, the trailer provides a brief synopsis of how players will be busting ghosts alongside the cast of the original Ghostbusters. Players can also expect to confront old foes like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man and Slimer once again.

For Ghostbusters fans, this may well be a breath of fresh air. After the release of the ill-received 2016 Ghostbusters game, fans may well be craving some good old-fashioned Ghostbusters action. For the meantime, a remaster of the acclaimed 2009 release may be the best method of providing that for returning fans and newcomers alike.

Since the release of 2016's panned Ghostbusters title, there have been two other releases. One is in the form of Ghostbusters: Now Hiring, a VR game in which players bust ghosts and revisit locations in New York from the movies. The other is Ghostbusters World, a mobile game in the style of Pokemon GO that allows players to battle and capture ghosts. In contrast, Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered appears to be a classic return to form.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered will release in 2019 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
