Ghost of Tsushima was just released last July, and the game is already proving to be a massive hit for both Sucker Punch Games and Sony. In just a few short months, the game was able to achieve several milestones such as July's best-selling title, the fifth best-selling game of 2020, and Sucker Punch's fastest-selling game in history. Of course, the game's critical and commercial success quickly garnered Ghost of Tsushima a growing fan base.

Now, fans of Ghost of Tsushima were surprised several days ago when Sucker Punch revealed that the game will be getting a new Co-Op mode called Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. In a statement released to the PlayStation Blog, Darren Bridges, who is the senior game designer at Sucker Punch, revealed some key information on what players should expect in the upcoming DLC. Now, here is a breakdown of everything we know so far about Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends - 3 New Multiplayer Game Modes

First and foremost, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends is a new online cooperative multiplayer mode that will offer players a different experience from the single-player journey of the base game. This separate mode won't be following the story of Jin or any of the companions from his story. Instead, Legends will focus on four warriors who are based on legends in stories told by the people of Tsushima. While Ghost of Tsushima's single-player campaign focused on an open-world environment and exploration of the island of Tsushima, Legends will offer a new co-op experience with an emphasis on combat and action that allows multiple players to band together and journey across several locations and battle enemies inspired by Japanese folk tales and mythology.

The expansion will allow players to play with friends or via online matchmaking in groups of 2-4 players. When playing as a duo, players will be able to tackle a series of co-op Story missions that offer varying degrees of difficulty. On the other hand, groups of four players will be able to take on Survival missions that would pit them against the toughest enemies of Tsushima. According to Sucker Punch, a four-player Raid mode will eventually be added to the game shortly after the release of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends.

Ghost of Tsushima: Legends - Four Different Character Classes, New Enemies

Ghost of Tsushima Legends Oni explained

As previously mentioned, Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will allow players to choose a warrior from four different character classes: Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin. Sucker Punch revealed that each class will have its unique advantages and abilities, but specific details on each of them are still a mystery. However, it is likely that each of the four classes would complement one another, allowing players to strategize every move and approach to battle with their teammates. Of course, it is likely that the Samurai and Ronin would be more focused on sword combat, while the Hunter and Assassin will specialize on ranged skills.

Apart from the four new classes, Sucker Punch revealed that Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will also feature a new enemy called Oni that wields supernatural abilities. Although the studio hasn't provided many details about the new enemies, the Oni are demonic creatures from Japanese folklore that are usually taller than the average human. These creatures are characterized by sharp horns protruding from their heads and carries a kanabo, which is a large metal club, as weapons against enemies. At the moment, it is still unclear how Sucker Punch plans to depict the Oni in the DLC, but it is interesting to see how these creatures would utilize their supernatural abilities.

Release Date

Unfortunately, Sucker Punch did not specify a release date for Ghost of Tsushima: Legends in its announcement. However, the developer gave fans a release window of fall 2020, which isn't really that far away. As far as pricing is concerned, fans will be happy to know that Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be free to all owners of the base game and Sucker Punch promises that it will not feature any microtransactions. However, given that this is an online multiplayer mode on the PS4, players would obviously need an internet connection and an active PS Plus subscription to play the game.
