The yearly voting for Famitsu magazine's yearly awards is over and Ghost of Tsushima has taken the top spot and won Famitsu's Game of the year for 2020. As voted by over 130 Japanese game developers, Ghost of Tsushima joins a prestigious list with Death Stranding and Spider-Man wining in years prior.

The competition this year was tough with several games receiving top scores from reviewing outlets across the globe. Tsushima beat out Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin. Rounding out the top 5 was Fall Guys, the surprise indie hit that reached a massive amount of audiences when it released this past summer.

The Famitsu award is one of the many accolades Ghost of Tsushima has won this year, including the Player's Voice game of the year award at this year's The Game Awards, an award strictly voted on by fans. While The Last of Us part 2 won the overall Game of the Year at the event, Ghost of Tsushima did win Best Art Direction with the game's visuals being a unique blend of realism and a painting.

Ghost of Tsushima has become a massive hit for Sony since its release in July with the game selling well over 5 million copies worldwide. The game was praised for its authenticity and unique twist on common mechanics often found in open-world games, including the use of wind as a guide to a player's destination, not having to rely on an on-screen map or switching to a menu to check a player's whereabouts.

In a surprise move, Sucker Punch released a free multiplayer DLC for the game in October that included classes, tough boss battles and unique settings from the game. The addition of multiplayer has kept fans busy taking on raids and earning ranks. Just this week, Sucker Punch released free DLC costumes influenced by other Sony exclusives, fans can don outfits inspired by Kratos from God of War and Aloy from Horizon: Zero Dawn, as well as a unique outfit inspired by Bloodborne.

With the release of the PlayStation 5, many fans are eager to see what Sucker Punch is planning for the new console. While it's unknown if it would be a sequel to Tsushima or a new IP, its likely we won't hear about it for a while given Tsushima released only 6 months ago. Whatever Sucker Punch has planned it will be interesting to see what the developer does with the new, more powerful console.

Ghost of Tsushima is out now on PlayStation 4.
