Of the many titles released last year, Ghost of Tsushima was one that many players took to in a big way. With a captivating storyline, tight controls, and beautiful graphics and scenery, many players have come to love Ghost of Tsushima. Now, it seems appreciation for the game has started to be reflected even more in terms of sales.

Last year was big for PlayStation, and Ghost of Tsushima was one of the games that made it so. Despite being an entirely new IP, the game exploded in popularity, to the point where there's going to be a film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima directed by John Wick's Chad Stalheski. Even after being out for over half a year, the game continues to gain financial success.

According to Deadline news, the game has surpassed over 6.5 million units sold. Ghost of Tsushima was already the fastest selling first-party original IP on PS4, but now it has outsold Sucker Punch's previous highest-selling game, InFamous: Second Son, which first launched in 2014 and sold over six million units by 2019. Needless to say, Sucker Punch has come a long way since the days of InFamous and Sly Cooper.

For how big of a departure Ghost of Tsushima was compared to other titles the studio previously worked on, Sucker Punch has managed to create game that many fans ended up thoroughly enjoying. Although, it appears the studio is managing to capitalize on the major success that the game has garnered in ambitious ways.

Ghost of Tsushima's Combat was the most difficult part to develop

With the launch of Ghost of Tsushima: Legends and the recent announcement of a live-action film adaptation, this game has managed to draw in a great deal of success, the likes of which could conceivably outweigh what Sony or Sucker Punch assumed the game would initially achieve. However, perhaps even more than that is the cultural and historical points of interest that Ghost of Tsushima celebrates both in-game and real life.

Following the release Ghost of Tsushima, a lot of newfound appreciation for Japanese culture was cultivated among its fans, to the point where those fans helped crowdfund repairs for the real-world Tsushima Island. Events like that do not often happen, even as a result of the love and appreciation that players have for a video game. Hopefully, in the coming years, Ghost of Tsushima continues to entertain and captivate players from around the world.

Ghost of Tsushima is available now exclusively for PS4.
